Hello vikrant1807

Your profile presents a mix of strong elements that could enhance your chances at your target and dream schools.

Your GMAT score of 730 is competitive. Your educational background from NIT Goa is impressive, particularly being the recipient of the Academic Gold Medal. Being ranked 3rd in the university adds value to your academic achievements. Your diverse work experience at Siemens in technical sales and subsequent management of a family business in Real Estate and Retail Sales demonstrates a well-rounded skill set that business schools often seek. Your leadership role in managing 25 employees showcases responsibility and leadership.

Your extracurricular involvement, particularly in sports at the state level, adds a unique dimension to your profile, emphasizing teamwork and leadership qualities. Organizing technical events during your undergraduate years further showcases your proactive nature.

Your post-MBA goals align with your background and are clearly defined, which is positive for your application.

Considering your Dream Schools, being from an overrepresented pool does not present a big challenge. Your unique combination of experiences and achievements could set you apart. It's crucial to highlight how your background brings a diverse perspective to the classroom and your future career.

For your target schools, you have a reasonable chance, especially if you can showcase how your experiences align with their program strengths and values. It's essential to craft compelling essays and recommendation letters that highlight your achievements and the impact you've made in your various roles.

Overall, while Dream Schools like Harvard might be highly competitive, your profile holds promise for admission to Top Schools. Strengthening your application through outstanding essays, solid letters of recommendation, and perhaps emphasizing additional leadership or impact initiatives in your profile could further enhance your chances.

Hi,
I am planning to apply to US B-schools in R1 of 2024 for the 2025 intake. Would really appreciate if I can get some feedback regarding my profile.

GMAT: 730 (Q50 V38). Not Planning to retake. Score valid till November 2024.

Background: Indian, Engineer, Male

Education: I completed my under-graduation (BTech) in Electrical Engineering from NIT Goa and was awarded the Academic Gold Medal for securing the highest overall GPA (9.19/10) in my Department. Overall was 3rd in the University.
Received multiple academic awards throughout High school as well.

Work Exp: 6.5 years
(1) Siemens Ltd (2.5 years): Worked as a Technical Sales Consultant and managed multiple Channel Partners and Dealers.
(2) Looking after my family business of Real Estate and Retail Sales since the last 4 years and managing a total of 25 employees.

Extra Curricular: Represented the state at the National level in speed skating and Rollball from 2007- 2013 and won multiple gold medals at the state level. Was the captain of the U-14, U-17 and U-19 state team. Participated in multiple inter-school and inter-college events in other sports as well
Organized multiple Technical events during under graduation.

Post MBA goals: Looking to explore opportunities in Real Esate or Consulting

Dream Schools: Harvard, Ross, Duke, Darden
Target Schools: McCombs, Kelley, Foster, Georgetown, Kenan-Flagler, UCLA, Scheller

I would really like to know if I have a realistic chance of getting into any of the Dream schools mentioned above considering that I come from an overrepresented pool of candidates.
Hi vikrant1807,

Let's discuss the different sections of your profile.

1.) Academics & GMAT - You have an excellent CGPA and university reputation that can work in your favor. Your GMAT will be ice on the cake(However, the test validity might be a concern).
2.) ECs: Overall okay. However, this needs to be elaborated on in your applications
3.) Your work experience: 6.5 years of work experience is reasonable for an MBA in the schools of your choice. Additionally, your experience in your family business needs to be highlighted in your applications presenting the leadership curve and challenges you faced. It needs to show the right skillsets you developed during your tenure making you a best fit at the university.
4.) Your long-term goal is vast. We also need to understand your short-term goal, It needs to be reflected in your applications.
