Hi all,
I am an Indian male, and have already appeared for GMAT.
GMAT Score: 730 Q50 V40, IR - 5 and Essay - 5
Profile: I am a qualified Chartered Accountant. I was previously working with Ernst & Young LLP as a consultant. About a year ago I left Ernst & Young LLP to work in my family owned CA firm and have stayed here since.
Work Experience:Total work experience: 3.5 years post qualification
I have a strong technical background. I interned with a mid size CA firm where I got extensive practical exposure in areas of accounting, tax, and finance. I wanted to test myself in a corporate environment and so joined EY post qualification and had a really good exposure. I got hands on working experience with senior management (think CXO level). I was part some very high value projects and can say I did pretty well.
So after a stint of almost 2 years I left EY to start working at my CA firm. I am currently heading the team of 3 and we mostly work with small to mid sized clients. I have been able to successfully introduce some new services.
MBA Goals:Short Term: To enter the BSFI industry at an analyst/associate level in a investment bank / transaction advisory / private equity fund. Although CA curriculum provides a sound understanding of the theory of finance, but still it is very difficult to get into core finance fields if not impossible. Although, I did get opportunity as a fresher from smaller firms but made a mistake of not joining. Through an MBA I wish to enter the industry with a reputable organization (like EY Transaction Advisory / Alvarez Marsal / PE funds etc).
Long Term: I plan to return to my CA firm after a few years of experience in these fields and add the practice areas here.
AcademicsXth - School Topper
XIIth - 91% CBSE
Graduation - 63% (this is where I think my profile takes a huge hit)
CA - Cleared (The course has a very low success ratio <1% overall, so its pretty cool to be one)
Extra Curriculars:To be honest I am a regular participant in a lot of stuff but dont have a stellar EC record (in terms of certificates and stuff). I was a school prefect (if that doesnt count as a very long time ago). I love playing tennis and going on long cycling tours (~500 kms). Again dont have much certificates, I practice these as leisure sports. I do have a lot of participation in debates and have won quite a few.
Other:I am looking for a right fit for school to fulfill my short term goals. I have already applied to ISB but I am also looking for other schools too. ISB has a good program but the placement statistics in finance industry are disappointing (only 7%). Plus it seems to be too costly considering the average salary (~Rs 25 lacs).
Some of my colleagues have suggested NUS / NTU in Singapore and Rotman in Canada. But I have not heard much about these schools when compared with the US counterparts. Considering the cost of US B-schools and the uncertainty of getting a work permit post graduation, I feel the bet on US B Schools could prove to be very costly.
I request an honest profile evaluation and suggestions for good B schools.
Also if there are any NUS Alumni who are reading this, would request you to please respond. I really like the program there, and would like to get more feedback on it.
