Hi,

Could you please evaluate my profile and gauge my chances at Melbourne Business School? I am also looking for some information on how the scholarships work at MBS and what are the chances of securing an interview with top Management Consulting firms with my GMAT score. 

I understand that the big consulting firms do not consider candidates with a GMAT score <700. Is this true? I am planning to give another exam next month and my target score is 700+.

Profile:
Female, Age 32, Mother of 2 (3yr & 1yr old)
Australian Citizen (India born)

Education:
10th – 79.5%
12th - Diploma/Polytechnic – 76.27%
Graduation – B.E in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from AMIETE – 6.56 GPA 
GMAT – 670 (Q45,V37,IR6,AWA5)

Work Experience:
14 years of extensive experience in managing IT Infrastructure. I have attached my LinkedIn URL for your reference -https://www.linkedin.com/in/aparnarallabhandi

Extra- Curricular: 
Worked as a teacher and a helper for a non-profit school for 7 years from 2005-2012. 

Post MBA goals:
I want to join Management Consulting preferably Technology Management Consulting (given my experience in the IT) after completing my MBA.

Well Aparna, the key question I have for you is: what did you do in those 14 years? How have you progressed? what are your main achievements?

It's 14 years!!! It will play a huge role! :)

But otherwise, you do seem to be in pretty good shape.

I understand that the Admissions Team at MBS will have questions about how I progressed during my 14 years career and am prepared for them. :-)

My career has been focused completely on Technology until now. I chose to stay in Technology and predominantly was an individual contributor. I did manage 2 teams during my career, but mostly lead them from technical side of things rather than managing people. I worked with various industries such as IT, Product, Manufacturing, and Financial firms.

I want to use my experience and leverage it in Consulting to provide cost-efficient and time-efficient solutions in Technology.

I have very clear post-MBA goals. I have started working towards them.

Well Aparna, I think you should have a competitive profile, but I would also suggest you to apply to other schools at the same time, if there are other schools you are interested in Australia.

As you cross 30, you start to fall in age issue. But 32 is the max age limit that should not TOO MUCH bother a candidate. But above 32 its a crucial fight. because then the profile is more suited for EXECUTIVE MBA. for a regular 2yr MBA, A Candidate of 32yo would need to support his/her application really well and explain WHY about the age, possibly.

Experts might add insight to it...

is age a factor for mba programs what is their cut off age?

Hey there,

There is no cut-off per se, but after 30 as you get older it can get harder in US schools.

The thing to do if you are older and still applying is to make sure that your applications MAKES SENSE at that age. So to justify the "why you are applying now".
