Profile Evaluation for IIM A, B, C , L, I and ISB(pgp) one year MBA

Can you please evaluate my profile?

10th and 12th- 86% 
 Btech- Metallurgical Egg - NIT - 6.2/10 
 Mtech- Materials Egg - IISc - 8.2/10 
 1 paper published on my mtech project in scientific journal 
3 years gap due to UPSC

work ex - 4 years 8 months

I am currently 31 years old with approximately 56 months of professional experience at a Maharatna PSU, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), where I am working as a Shift In-Charge in Operations within the Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) steelmaking process. 
 Given my background, I would like to understand the likelihood of securing admission to the aforementioned institutions with my current GMAT Focus score. Additionally, I seek guidance on whether it would be advisable to further improve my GMAT score to enhance my chances of conversion. 
 I would also appreciate insights on any additional steps I can take to strengthen my overall profile, particularly in terms of leadership exposure, or extracurricular involvement, to improve my competitiveness for these programs.

You need not worry about retaking the GMAT for your target schools; your existing score gives you a good chance at receiving an interview call provided you put forth a set of essays that duly focus on your need for an MBA, aptly demonstrate your strengths, and put forth goals that logically sync with your experience.

IIM C, L, and I are more likely to give you a chance than the others, the reason being that you are working at a Public Sector organisation after a long career gap, and the PSU ecosystem leaves less room for spontaneous or out-of-the-ordinary career growth progression that could grab the attention of higher-ranked B-school programs for experienced candidates.
In your application and interviews, carefully lay out experiences that prove you have time and again demonstrated leadership and initiative. If you have had the opportunity to bring about changes in processes and systems that positively impacted the overall business or set a precedent for other teams/employees, shine a spotlight on those instances.
Think: there would be hundreds of candidates from PSUs wanting to use the conventional MBA path to make a move into the private sector, what sets you apart from these people? It is not your GMAT score, nor your job title, so what is it? You will need to do a lot of introspection and deep deliberation to find answers yourself before you can answer the adcoms and interviewers.

Congratulations on an excellent GMAT FE score—this will significantly strengthen your profile and help offset a lower undergraduate GPA. An M.Tech from IISc is a strong differentiator and adds solid academic credibility.
IIM C, L, and I appear to be within reach, while IIM A, B, and ISB PGP are worth targeting as ambitious options—there’s no downside to applying. Also, many candidates with UPSC preparation backgrounds make it to these programs each year, so admissions committees are well familiar with such profiles.
Ultimately, your success will depend on how effectively you position your journey—especially how you connect your past experiences with your post-MBA goals.

Great GMAT focus score. NIT (B.Tech.) + IISc (Masters) is a great combination. 10th 12th is also beyond adequate, College GPA is sub-par. 3 years gap for UPSC preparation is not a massive demerit, just be completely honest in your interviews when asked about the gap. Every year scores of people get selected who have career gaps. You have very high chances of selection in IIM-L and IIM-I (unless you don't botch up your interviews). High chances in IIM-C. Good chances in IIM-A and ISB. Low chances in IIM-B. Getting into these institutes will be easy for you, but the real challenge for you will be well-deserved placements. Your hardcore and PSU work background may discourage some companies.

The real question here is not whether 675 is enough; it is whether a 3-year UPSC gap, a 6.2 undergrad GPA, and a PSU operations profile can be framed as a coherent story that adcoms at IIM ABC and ISB will find genuinely compelling rather than merely unusual.

•⁠ ⁠The GMAT Focus 675 sits close to the reported medians at IIM L and I, and is somewhat below what IIM A, B, C, and ISB have seen from admits in recent cohorts; a push to 695-plus would meaningfully reduce the score risk, particularly given the undergraduate GPA drag.
•⁠ ⁠The 6.2 from NIT is the quietly important issue here: paired with the IISc 8.2 and a published paper, you have a recovery narrative, but adcoms will want to see that arc made explicit in your essays rather than left for them to connect.
•⁠ ⁠The UPSC gap is genuinely rare in these applicant pools, and that is an asset if framed around what it revealed about how you think, not as a detour to explain away.
•⁠ ⁠Operations at a BOF plant means you hold safety, throughput, and shift-level people decisions simultaneously; the leadership exposure is present, but most applicants in similar roles undersell the scale of consequence in those calls.
