Hello, please could you review below profile?

  • X - 85%
  • XII - 80%
  • UG - 7 CGPA [B. Tech] from a Tier-II college
  • Work - 6.5 years of work-ex in a leading IT Service company in India.
Extra-curriculars:

  1. UG
    1. Private company sponsored UG education
    2. Published a technical paper with IEEE
    3. Various awards at UG level (CISCOertifications, Best project, inter-college fests, etc)
  2. Work
    1. Awards in individual and Team category
    2. SAP certification
    3. Cumulative technical accolades which were a part of my 6.5 years of work-ex
Language: English / Hindi / French

Took a year gap [from June'23 to June'24] to prepare for the Civil Services examinations but unfortunately I would need to pivot; so planing to take the GMAT and apply to IIM-A/B/C/U and ISB

Q1. Is this a decent profile?
Q2. What should be the target score to aim for the GMAT to receive an interview call?
Q3. Is there anyone who took a drop for the civil services and was able to convert any of the B-schools? Any leads and advice would be appreciated, thank you.
Hey! Your acads are decent and the awards you collected at workplace are also good. However, a lot depends on what kind of work experience you have (in IT domain) coz IT services is an over-represented pool of applicants. In this domain what matters is if you had any leadership roles or you took initiatives that impacted the organization or you worked on developing path-breaking technology etc. All of this has to be articulated really well in both application essays and interview. Particularly for IIMA the first step includes submitting your application with resume and on the basis of that candidates are invited to submit application essays and attend an interview. So, there will be a lot of focus on how good your resume is and how well you have articulated your work experience, achievements, awards, projects etc.  in your resume.

All profiles are decent :), but a lot depends on what kind of stories you build around your work experience and extracurriculars.

You should try to get 675+ on GMAT. A 705+ will certainly make your profile standout.

We have had a few aspirants who had gap years in between for various reasons (prepping for Civil Services is a common one), so you don't have to worry a lot about it.

We have 40+ mentors from ISB on our platform IvyCrackers and few of them are on ISB admissions interview panel. You can book a complimentary 30-mins call with us and one of the interview panelists will evaluate your profile in detail. In this call, we will delve deep into your profile, help you build an overall strategy for your ISB application, and answer any questions you have about ISB.
