However, you must try to cross 650 or so to remain competitive.

Hi,

Considering you will have close to 4 years of work experience by next March, you would be eligible for programs like ISB, IIMA PGPX, IIMK PGP-BL, IIMM MBA, IIMU MBA GSCM/DEM, SPJIMR PGPM, and XLRI PGDM GM.

I would strongly recommend spending some time refining your post-MBA goals, as greater clarity around your intended career path will significantly strengthen your applications.

In terms of test scores, you should ideally target a GMAT FE score around 675 for ISB. While the average for the one-year IIM programs is typically a bit lower, aiming for 645+ would still keep you competitive across programs.

I work at AXA XL in catastrophe modeling, where I model potential losses for insurance and reinsurance portfolios during quote and binder workflows. My work helps underwriters evaluate the financial impact of catastrophic events like hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes before policies are finalized, using tools like RMS and Moody’s UnderwriterIQ.
Over the past few years, my responsibilities have expanded beyond technical modeling. I audit other analysts’ modeling work to ensure accuracy and consistency, mentor junior analysts on workflows and modeling standards, and regularly communicate with stakeholders to identify inefficiencies and improve processes across the team.

Stealthz3r  You're asking the score question, but the more interesting tension in your profile is that catastrophe modeling at AXA XL is a genuinely uncommon background in the Indian one-year applicant pool, and that should shape how you think about the target, not just the number itself.

- On the score, treat Focus 675 as your real anchor for ISB and IIM A PGPX, not 645. A 645 (roughly Classic 700) keeps you in the conversation, but with a 7.0 undergrad CGPA from a BMS program, the GMAT is doing double duty as both a competence signal and an academic-rigor signal. You want the score working for you, not just neutralising the academics.
- IIM A PGPX in particular is realistic for you only if you frame yourself as a 4+ year applicant in a class where the average is closer to a decade. That means the application has to lean hard on depth of role, not breadth of years. Cat modeling is technical and quantitative, so play that up rather than apologising for the timeline.
- ISB reads the BMS plus 7.0 differently than IIM A does. ISB is more forgiving on undergrad if the test score and work narrative are sharp, which is why pushing toward Focus 685 matters more for ISB than chasing eligibility for the IIMs.
- The PMP and the COVID-era art and 3D work are more useful than you probably think, but only if you connect them to a coherent post-MBA goal. Right now they read as interesting fragments. In my experience, adcoms reward fragments that resolve into a thesis.

Lock the post-MBA goal first, then reverse-engineer the score target. If you can credibly aim at insurance-tech, risk analytics, or climate-risk consulting post-MBA, your profile suddenly looks pointed rather than scattered.
