Additional relevant freelance work includes backstage hospitality for a concert venue, brand ambassadorships for a technology brand, and event staff for an NBA team.
Extracurriculars
Event Volunteer: I usually try to volunteer at a major sporting event every year, have done Olympic Trials (Gymnastics), Prefontaine Classic, USSA World Cup, a National Duathlon, Copa America, etc.
Alumni Advisor: I served as the local chapter of my sorority's social/risk management advisor for 3 years.
Alumni Association: I served as the VP Programming/Philanthropy for 3 years.
Networking: I was part of the 2019 mentee class for the local Women in Sports & Events chapter.
MBA Prep: I was part of the 2019 Forté MBALaunch program
MBA Goals
Short Term: Transition onto the technology client/brand side in a sponsorship strategy role
Long Term: Lead an Olympic sponsorship brand team (ideally tech, but not going to rule any of the others out!)
Why MBA?
I don't currently - and my agency doesn't either - have any of my target brands as clients, so the transition from agency to brand side is unlikely. Many job postings for tech brands don't "require" an MBA - but they're listed as preferable. As my undergrad degree is management and entrepreneurship focused (a lot of people and pitch skills), I'd like to dig deeper into marketing (specifically brand management and strategy) at an MBA program. Since my goal is to lead a sponsorship department, I'd like to ensure I have the requisite background in other aspects of the business as well. While I currently oversee budgets and am comfortable with that role, I'd like a stronger finance background when it comes to setting budgets and priorities in relation to other aspects of the business - our overall budgets now are set by the client, so that sort of configuration doesn't factor in.
Schools
Primarily looking at schools with strong marketing / brand management specializations or electives. I plan on applying in R1/R2 this fall, I'm looking at both US and international schools, the shorter programs are desirable since I'm not looking for a function or industry change. Many were chosen geographically as well - close to Olympic and mega sports hosting hotspots.
