Hi,

I'm aiming for R1 deadlines, kindly go through my details and let me know your thoughts:

· Demographics : Indian, Male

· Education : PEC University of Technology, 8.5/10, BE in Aerospace Engg

· Other coursework or post-undergraduate education: Cleared all 3 levels of the CFA Examination

· GMAT: 750 (Q50, V41, IR8, AWA: awaited)

· Work experience:
-Total 5 years
-Current employer: Major US Airline (1yr), previous employer: boutique data consulting firm (4yrs)
-Got promoted 4 times in the last firm to become the youngest manager (had joined as an analyst)
-Worked on-site for a middle east client for 3 months. 90% of work-ex has been remotely servicing overseas clients (geographies: Australia, India, Middle East, US)
-Have worked on multiple lending strategy projects with projected profit increases of $1M+ etc.; currently working on Covid response strategies for airline

· Extracurricular activities:
-Head of remote volunteering set-up for previous employer’s CSR initiative; managed 4 volunteers. Worked on a pilot project for a major Indian NGO
-Formed runners club at previous firm with 3 other colleagues, participated in multiple 5K/10K runs
-Raised funds for flood relief and Covid relief, contributed INR70K and INR60K resp.
-Tutored under-privileged students as part of govt. sponsored project during undergrad
-Received the highest award for extra-currics from Undergrad college for contribution as joint-head of technical societies

· Post-MBA goals: Getting into Investment Banking and eventually moving to Private Equity

· Target schools: Wharton, Booth, Columbia, Stern, Insead, LBS

· Any specific questions you would like answered by our team: Just a general assessment of where I am in terms of the overall profile/demographic; Anything that I can work on to boost my chances for Wharton (dream college in the most literal sense)

Hi, and thanks for writing! You have a very well-rounded profile: excellent academics, progressive work experience (and the airline role really adds distinction, even though it must be such a tough time to work in travel!) and a track record of extracurricular leadership both within and outside of work. So, even though competition is very tough for Indian males, you are likely in solid contention for the top 10-15 U.S. schools. Things you can do to maximize your chances:

1.) In your application, explain very clearly the motivation behind your career goals - why do you want to transition into investment banking, based on your experiences, observations, and interests to date? Bschools always want to know the WHY behind your goals, even more than the WHAT.
2.) Research each program thoroughly (remote events, conversations with students/alumni) so that you can make a very strong case for why each one is a strong fit for you based on its culture and resources within and outside of the classroom
3.) Given the competitiveness of your demographic, expand your list of schools. I recommend adding on Darden, Yale, Fuqua, and Cornell Johnson. Also, apply in as many programs as you comfortably can in Round 1 (and in the case of CBS, which has rolling admission, apply as early as possible).
