Acads-
10th: 82%
12th: 89.7%
BCom: 8.17 cgpa
Work experience:
25 months on matriculation.
15 months as an accountant in a startup and 10 months in a trading company. Both are startup’s.
Extra curriculars:
- French A2 certificate from DELF
- I’ve a thrift store through which I earned 4 lakhs in profit in just 7 months (what are the necessary receipts/docs am I suppose to present?)
- volunteered as a teacher at an NGO for 2 years and taught science and maths to the underprivileged kids
- Intiated green Telangana in my school.
- I was a house captain ( idk if these are relevant or not)
- I was part of scouts and guides troop.
I have yet to take my GRE and plan to apply for Round 2. My main concerns are my mediocre academics and work experience. Can I compensate with a great GRE score? I don't have any brand recognition in my profile, neither with my school nor my job. Should I give up on ISB?
Posted from my mobile deviceHey! Being brutally honest at you requested - First of all your acads aren't bad at all. Infact, they are pretty good! Now, yes a good GRE will certainly strengthen a part of your profile for ISB (acads +good GRE can certainly make your profile stand out). You work experience is below the average work experience at ISB, so you will have to call out the key highlights of your work experience really well. This means you will have to showcase leadership opportunities you got or initiatives you took that made a significant impact/contribution for the startups.
Along with this, you will have to be very clear about your goals and how ISB/MBA will help you achieve those goals. Be sound and crisp with this question as a lot of aspirants falter around this question in the interviews.
You don't need any brand recognition for ISB - what matters the most is the kind of impact you have created at your workplace and how you articulate it in your essays and interviews.
Amongst all the extracurriculars you highlighted, the thrift store and NGO experience will be most relevant for B-schools. You can build a personal story around this. You don't need to share any docs/receipts for thrift store .
