Hello, I’m a dentist with 4.5 years of work experience across private dental clinics and as a medical advisor for an insurance company now. I want to get into healthcare consulting. I applied to ISB last year with a classic Gmat 670 and got rejected without an interview. Since then I took 2 more attempts, scoring a 595 and finally a 665 (q84, V83, Di 82) balanced percentiles in all sections

I had a talk with a senior admissions and financial aid manager at ISB through their application feedback facility. I was told my gmat was the only factor lagging in the application. Everything else was in line with the batch. She seemed very positive and encouraging on applying.

I have also worked on my extracurriculars. I had volunteering experience and sports achievements earlier. Now I run a fitness page on Instagram and have a book review blog. Until last month their average scores were 655. Now their recent report says 669. Median is 675. It was very hard for me as a dentist to manage a 665. Do you recommend another attempt to push my current 665? I’m just worried about managing it with hectic work, nearing deadline, and the very high cost of GMAT. In the screenshot is further response from the admissions manager from ISB Please suggest!!! Thank you so much.

Dear DrDanish,

One glance through the information you’ve shared tells us that both by education and professional experience, your profile is certainly a differentiated one that will work in your favour from an application perspective.

From an extracurriculars standpoint as well, you seem to have strong points to highlight. Your background in sports, volunteering work, and now your initiatives like the fitness page and book review blog show consistency and depth beyond academics and work.

While we still have limited information on your academic scores and the depth of responsibilities in your professional roles, it does appear that in your previous attempt, the GMAT score may have been the major hurdle in securing a shortlist. That said, you have made a significant improvement in your GMAT Focus Edition score, and we would like to congratulate you on that achievement.

Given that your profile is differentiated, we believe that even with your current GMAT Focus score of 665, if you can craft your application thoughtfully and clearly articulate your reasons for pursuing the PGP at ISB, you still have a very good shot.

With Round 1 deadlines approaching, your focus should now be on building a strong and compelling application. You should consider a retake only if you strongly feel your mock scores were consistently better than your test day performance. Otherwise, it would be best to focus on presenting your profile in the best possible light and giving your application your full energy.
We would be happy to speak with you further to explore how to present your story most impactfully and how an MBA can support your goals in healthcare consulting.

At Team FLY, we are a collective of ISB alumni dedicated to supporting prospective MBA applicants with profile positioning, essay reviews and interview preparation.
