Hello,

I'm planning to apply for ISB.

Can your please help me with my profile?

10th- 10 CGPA (2012)- CBSE
12th- 77.60 % (2014)- CBSE
B.Tech- 83.8 % (BTech in IT, Tier3 College, Graduated in 2020)

Gap years --> 2 after 12th

Work exp : 3.5 years

IBM (2021-2022) - IT consultant - client facing role

SAP LABS INDIA (2022 - present ) -
Started off with IT consultant role, but currently switching to a new role as a Client Delivery Manager( hoping this may help my profile )

Extra Curricular:

Winner in state level quiz competition
Topper at National Science level talent search examination
Finalist for Hackathon organised by Ministry of Road transport and Highway
Worked with various NGOs since school

Hoping to get honest opinions. What score makes a chance for me ? If my profile worthy enough for ISB? Assuming my 2 year gaps and low 12th percentage is a disadvantage for my profile. And there is not much on extra curricular side too.

I strongly recommend that you aim for a score upwards of 695. A very high GMAT score can sometimes convince adcoms to give applicants a chance to interview to get a second opinion from the interview panel. I do not see an obvious hook in your profile. What are your short and long term goals, and why? The gap years are attributed to what reason? A career in core IT does not help differentiate you either. I see your move to a customer-facing role as a positive sign. Even if you do not make it to ISB this year, keep creating an upward trajectory for yourself so you have a good shot at the top IIMs once you meet the admission requirements.

Best wishes

Hey, APowl2302

While your 10th standard CGPA and B.Tech score showcase a strong academic foundation, the lower 12th standard percentage might require explanation in your application. Two gap years in your education also require a clear explanation. However, your 3.5 years of work experience, particularly the potential transition to a Client Delivery Manager role at SAP Labs India, showcases valuable leadership potential.

Furthermore, your valuable participation in different competitions, along with your volunteer work with NGOs, demonstrates a well-rounded and achievement-oriented profile. By effectively addressing the gap years in your essays and aiming for a strong GMAT/GRE score (700) , you can significantly improve your chances of admission to ISB.

Let's connect to have detailed analysis of how we can boost your profile. feel free to schedule a complimentary profile evaluation session with our experts . We match you with the students and alums of top B-Schools according to your background and target schools.

A GFE score of 685 (or above) would be ideal, APowl2302.

Remember that ISB is extremely competitive. While your IBM brand (and switch to CDM role) may bring some good angles, the IT / Engineer profile is fairly/ over represented at ISB, and you need all the competitive edge(s) to differentiate yourself.

It's also crucial to have a strong narrative linking your experiences to your goals, and how/ why ISB fits in, but right now, a strong GMAT score should be your priority.

Arvind

Hi APowl2302
I'm Priyanka from ARINGO. Let's discuss your profile - A GMAT FE score around 685-695 will be crucial for your application. You will also need to address your gap years, can the gap be justified?
Your GPA seems to be decent and shouldn’t hinder your chances. Are there any academic certifications on your resume? This will help you establish your academic potential.

Speaking about your experience, it will be very important to demonstrate impact in your application. ISB greatly values intellectual aptitude and problem-solving skills- which can be showcased by your achievements like quiz competition and hackathon positions. Your ECs will also need some polishing- (NGO involvement linking to social cause)
To assess your strengths and weaknesses further and personalize your application strategy, we recommend connecting for a detailed profile evaluation.

Hi APowl2302,

Thank you for reaching out! Based on your profile, here's a detailed evaluation along with some personalized advice to enhance your application for ISB and other top MBA programs in India.

GMAT Score Recommendation:

Target GMAT Score: 655+

Why Aim for 655+?
  • Competitive Edge: A score of 655 on the GMAT Focus Edition places you in the 90th percentile, which is considered very competitive for top B-schools like ISB. This will help offset your lower 12th-grade percentage and address any concerns about academic consistency.
  • Mitigate Gaps: Your two-year gap after 12th can be positively framed, but a strong GMAT score will further reassure admissions committees of your academic capabilities.
Profile Evaluation:

Spikes:

1. Strong Academic Performance:
  • 10th Grade: Scoring a perfect 10 CGPA is fantastic and shows your academic potential.
  • B.Tech Performance: Your B.Tech GPA of 83.8% stands out, particularly from a Tier 3 college, demonstrating consistency and dedication.
2. Professional Experience:
  • IBM and SAP Labs: Experience at industry giants like IBM and SAP Labs in client-facing roles showcases your ability to handle high-stakes environments.
  • Client Delivery Manager Role: Your new role as a Client Delivery Manager highlights your growing leadership potential and ability to manage significant projects.
3. Extracurricular Achievements:
  • State and National Competitions: Winning state-level quizzes and excelling in national competitions like the National Science Talent Search and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways hackathon demonstrate your intellectual capabilities.
  • NGO Involvement: Long-term involvement with NGOs since school shows your commitment to social causes and a well-rounded personality.

Areas to Address:

1. Gap Years:
  • Constructive Explanation: It’s crucial to frame your two-year gap positively. Highlight any personal development, learning experiences, or family responsibilities that demonstrate growth.
2. Lower 12th Percentage:
  • Offset with GMAT: Achieving a GMAT score of 655+ will help mitigate concerns about your lower 12th-grade percentage and demonstrate your academic prowess.
