Q 47 , V31 in GMAT prep ..3 weeks to go..need help !

Question

In both the Quant and Verbal I had to rush through last 10-12 questions. Most of them I ended up getting incorrect. need help on how to keep the same intensity throughout the test as I lacked the energy in latter half of both the section. Also in Verbal when solving problems(min a set of 10) in timed environment my accuracy is 80-90% in all three areas individually but in tests I end up making more mistakes. Clearly it may be due to rushing on the tests or not having the same concentration/focus. Please help me out on strategies while taking the tests.

Hi vil1,

If you're consistently having to rush through the final 10+ questions in both the Quant and Verbal sections, then you have a pacing problem. Pacing problems do NOT exist on their own though - they are the RESULT of other problems. "Your way" of dealing with the Test takes 'too long' per question, so to fix your overall problems, you're going to have to adjust how you 'see' (and respond to) the GMAT.

1) How long have you been studying?
2) What resources have you been using?
3) What is your score goal?
4) When are you planning to take the GMAT?

So what should I do to fix this? What can be the "other problems" ? Also I have been fixated to the idea that a better accuracy in first 20 can swing the score to higher level than maintaining a consistent level(although its tough to maintain for me) throughout. It may be a misconception somehow.

1) I have been studying for almost 2 1/2 months now. First 2 months covered all the basics in quant and verbal. Last two weeks have been giving tests and analyzing the error.

2) Quant- Manhattan Guides + OG + Gmatclub test package (finished almost 12 tests avg arnd~ Q47 )
 Verbal SC- Manhattan Guide+ OG+ verbal review+ Gmat prep questions (approx 300 qs)
 RC - OG+ verbal review+ RC 99(approx 50 essays)+Gmat Prep questions
 CR- OG+ verbal review+ Gmat prep questions+ Gmat Club 700-800 level 100 questions(accuruacy in CR has been 80-90% )
I have tried to keep my practice as much as close to GMAT actual level.

3) Goal Score is a Q49, ~V40 ...to cross 720

4)test is scheduled for 24th Aug

HI vil1,

Based on what you've described, part of your 'issue' is that you waited until just recently to take your practice CATs. If you had started taking your CATs earlier, then you would have had more time to work on this problem (and potentially 'fix' it).

Can you list out each of your practice CATs, the date that you took each, and how you scored on each (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

With 17 days to go, it will be difficult for you to make the necessary changes to how you handle the GMAT and raise your scores. Do you have the flexibility to push back your Test Date? I understand why you probably don't *want* to do that, but the extra study time would be quite helpful.
