Hello everyone,
I am currently deciding on which Bschool to join. I would like to know what made you guys narrow down to Smith School of Business among schools such as Smith, Rotman, Ivey, Schulich, Mcgill, and UBC. I am asking this question because many top MBA consultants are of the view that Rotman, Ivey, and Schulich are only "worth it" schools in Canada. This surprised me a little, given that the placement report of Smith outranks every other school. Would love a healthy discussion on this topic.
Thanks for initiating a healthy discussion,

After taking the GMAT, I was already pinned on the geography. I began reaching out to current students and alumni of all the top colleges in Canada in order to get a better perspective. This process helped me the most in making the decision. I did not have Smith in the mix earlier because I took the GMAT on March 2, 2023 and was of the opinion that I would not be able to apply in time and be ready to join by January, 2024. However, the prospective, current, and past students of Smith were very prompt and helpful in responding to the same message I sent out to the students of other schools too (probably earlier than Smith). The experience that I had with the applications team further reinforced the close-knit community feel that I was looking for.
In nutshell, my thought process was to consider my fit with the school and consider the alignment of the goals I have post-MBA. From the experience I have had so far, I feel the skills that I gather and the long lasting connections that I make will outweigh any other ranking or stat for me. Given my humble background, a relatively lower fees and better scholarship opportunities also played a role.
I hope this helps. You may refer to the links below for more of such discussions. All the best to you!
