Hello everyone,

I am currently deciding on which Bschool to join. I would like to know what made you guys narrow down to Smith School of Business among schools such as Smith, Rotman, Ivey, Schulich, Mcgill, and UBC. I am asking this question because many top MBA consultants are of the view that Rotman, Ivey, and Schulich are only "worth it" schools in Canada. This surprised me a little, given that the placement report of Smith outranks every other school. Would love a healthy discussion on this topic.

Hello all,

I had my interview for the Queen's FTMBA last week and just received a mail to set up a zoom call to discuss the results of the application.

I wanted to know if all results (positive or negative) are given out in this way post the interview?

Thanks for initiating a healthy discussion, manavk145!

After taking the GMAT, I was already pinned on the geography. I began reaching out to current students and alumni of all the top colleges in Canada in order to get a better perspective. This process helped me the most in making the decision. I did not have Smith in the mix earlier because I took the GMAT on March 2, 2023 and was of the opinion that I would not be able to apply in time and be ready to join by January, 2024. However, the prospective, current, and past students of Smith were very prompt and helpful in responding to the same message I sent out to the students of other schools too (probably earlier than Smith). The experience that I had with the applications team further reinforced the close-knit community feel that I was looking for.

In nutshell, my thought process was to consider my fit with the school and consider the alignment of the goals I have post-MBA. From the experience I have had so far, I feel the skills that I gather and the long lasting connections that I make will outweigh any other ranking or stat for me. Given my humble background, a relatively lower fees and better scholarship opportunities also played a role.

I hope this helps. You may refer to the links below for more of such discussions. All the best to you!

Hi everyone, I have following queries regarding admission at Smith.

1. Earlier this year I was in touch with Rachel Green (Application Advisor), who evaluated my CV to check if I will be a fit for their program or not. My query is whether I need to submit the documents on the webpage or via the email? Since Rachel has requested me (via emails) multiple times to send her the cover letter, references, etc. via email, I am not sure if the final application will be submitted via email or at webpage. I didn't send her the content earlier as I was not yet ready with my GMAT score.

2. I did reach out to Rachel this week regarding above-mentioned query but she is not responding. Does that mean that they are not interested in my profile anymore as I scored low in GMAT (640).

3. Given my low GMAT score, do I still have chances to get an admit for January 2024. I believe that chances of scholarship are almost zero.

They will look at your profile holistically and not just based on the scores

Application for Smith is only done via emails

So provide all the requirements that she has asked for and then wait for her to get back.

Hello, BK_IN!

1. You will have to fill the application form using the link shared by Rachel. The rest of the documents can be submitted on the email.

2. Rachel was out of office between June 16 - July 4. You may try reaching out to her now.

3. GMAT is just one of the criteria for an admit/scholarship. I would recommend that you apply because they follow a holistic approach for selecting students. Moreover, given that there is no application fees for Smith, you have nothing to lose.

Wishing you all the best!
Cheers.
