Query about application

Question

Hey all.
I have written my GMAT yesterday and got 635(Q-81/V-84/DI-79)

I am currently working with a big 4 as a technical consultant and have 7years of experience as we speak.

I am looking for IIMs.
Considering the score isn’t that great and it is only the third round that I can apply in, will it be risky to proceed with this score ? 
Or should I be retaking the exam and try to enhance the score by another 20-30 points? 
Please suggest.

⁠That is an interesting set of profile parameters. After evaluation, this is what we think:

Seven years at a Big 4 as a technical consultant is a genuinely strong foundation for an IIM application, and the risk is that it stays in the background while the essays treat it as scenery.

- A 635 on the current GMAT (which ends in 5, confirming it's the current scale) sits roughly in the territory that most IIMs will read as acceptable rather than impressive, meaning the weight shifts immediately to everything else in the file: undergrad grades, progression within the Big 4, and what the essays actually establish about scope and ownership across seven years.
- Consider what "technical consultant" looks like on a reader's second page: if the resume shows project delivery with growing client accountability, that reads very differently than if it shows a largely execution-oriented track without a clear move toward ownership or team leadership. That distinction, not the score, tends to separate files in this pool.
- Round 3 for IIMs is a real constraint. Class seats and diversity considerations are both tighter, and a retake that brings the score to 655-665 may not shift the read enough to offset that timing disadvantage; a materially stronger application with the current score in Round 3 is a harder call than it sounds.
- Seven years is also approaching the point where IIMs will expect the goals statement to show a very clear reason why an MBA now rather than two years ago, so that framing deserves as much attention as the score question.

The path forward depends partly on how quickly a retake is realistically possible and whether waiting pushes the application into next cycle entirely, which may actually be the stronger option if it means applying in Round 1 or 2 with more preparation.
