Hi All,
I plan to apply for Full Time MBA for the class of 2016. I am confused about how do I classify my work experience on the application forms. I am a process engineer (chemical engineer) and I work for a technology licensor. My designation is " technical advisor" and my work pretty much reflects my designation. I travel to refineries in different parts of the world and provide them technical guidance on process engineering side.
However, whenever I fill the forms I am confused whether to tick on engineering or on consulting. The work I do involves pure mathematics, physics, equations, and chemical engineering knowledge but again its not what people refer to as "main stream" consulting. I'd be glad if I can have some opinion about this.
I am sure others will have similar queries.

Hi. Your work falls under what is "Technical Consulting", similar to what an IBM or Accenture may provide for the IT area.
As for the grad school forms, suggest that you categorize it under "Engineering" because "Consulting" implies something else to them.

Thanks for the reply. I just wonder that does it put you in the line of many other engineers when you put your work ex as "engineering". Saying "consulting" might give you an edge. Just a personal opinion.
