Question about interviewing for business school

Question

I am planning to apply in Round 1 this year for all of my target schools. My concern involves how the interview process works. If I am invited to interview at schools, how much flexibility is there to choose interview dates/times? I live at least 1500 miles away from all of my target schools and wanted to know if interviews could happen on weekends or through Skype.

The schools I am looking to target are Dartmouth, Northwestern, Ross, HBS, Wharton, etc

Hi there,

Most programs are very understanding when it comes to interviewing distance candidates. Most will allow for Skype or alumni interviews if you're unable to come to campus. However, if you're willing to make the trip, they can work with you to figure out the best dates and times.

If they're inviting you to interview, they're already interested in you!

As far as I know, every school tries to match you with an alumnus in your area for the interview, unless you opt to come to campus. If you live somewhere with no alums, they will likely waive the interview or setup a teleconference. I even know a guy who interviewed at Tokyo Narita when both he and an alum were laid over at the same time.

If you are going for interview at the place of an interviewer,it will get somewhat different experience than through Skype. You will get a greater chance for face to face interview. so,make use of that opportunity.

For the alumni interviews it really depends not just by program but also by interviewer. As you have to factor in the human component and some may prefer weekends so this may work for you. But with alums it tends to be more of a conversation then you would imagine and usually there are alums in cities across the globe so don't necessarily assume you will be too far from your interviewer. On-campus interviews typically occur mostly during the week but also weekends particularly during special weekends like women's, minority, open house type events. Again for most programs on your list outside of Kellogg this is a good problem to have
