Agreed - it'll warrant some fact checking on their end but if it all checks out (and you should help them by making sure they have everything they need), it won't be an issue. I'm not entirely sure why this individual is averse to using their new corporate ID to help you but using a yahoo ID won't discredit a legitimate recommendation with a legitimate reason.

Good luck!

Bhavik

Thanks a ton Bhavik and Politriks for your response.

I have another small query.

Is it ok to have the recommendation done by someone who now works as an independent consultant, and doesn't have a full-time job? He was a superior to me at one of my previous jobs. From your experience, do you think it will have negative connotations?

You're very welcome! Generally, stay away from independent consultants. It's difficult to figure out if they're important enough to matter. If someone's a Partner at BCG, you understand a bit more about them because of the context the title and the firm represent. An independent consultant has no context. Which makes them less than ideal.

Hello
I need a recommendation from someone who does not have an official mail ID. I am concerned that it will jeopardize my chances of getting into schools. Any more thoughts on the requirement of official mail IDs for recommendations.

No, I think it is pretty clearly addressed and answered by Critical Square.
