Range of X:
e.g., range of skills = a variety of skills. Range here is used as a noun.

Ranging:
His widely ranging emotions are hard to deal with. (from MGMAT SC). Ranging here is used as an adjective, modifying the noun emotions. Here widely ranging means "changing over time"

Or, ranging is used as an -ing participle (starting off with an adverbial clause or as a verb modifier)
His car always have issues, ranging from transmission failures to worn-down shocks.
