I didn't lock it... but the reasoning is simple... there's already a thread on the subject, so to avoid having things potentially split into two threads (thereby later making it near impossible to figure out who is admitted where... and then where they matriculate), its common practice to lock duplicate threads. This is the case on most sites I visit. In fact, a few places I go, they actually suspend accounts or in some cases even outright ban people for duplicate threads - and thats on a PAID forum!!

To put it differently, I honestly think it was well intentioned.

On another note, good to see you here... long time no chat!

I also think it was well intentioned. What I suggest, to make both parties happy, is to have the moderator include a comprehensive admit list in the first post of the 2008 Admit/Dings Results Compilation. That way, you have the complete profiles of everyone, with background info and schools applied to, but a simple reference for admits in the first post. Its just a suggestion.

I presume kryzak locked it. No harm, no foul. I do like emory's idea. Do you prefer it list admits by person or by school?

e.g.
emoryhopeful - Emory; Duke, Harvard

OR

Emory - emoryhopeful; kidderek; rhyme

probably both?

If there were only space for one, I'd go with a list by school, but that's just my opinion. Both would be nice.

Again, it's going to be thin with few data points. But we can get something going and put a smile on ozmba's face!

School would be a great idea

if i wanna know who made it to GSB or Emory --All i need is to look at the post and then search for the profiles

Its that simple!

Moderators, make it happen. This will be much easier than reading through all of the profiles to see who got in where.

Yea, sometimes I don't care how a wine is made, I just want to drink it. Does that analogy make any sense? . . . I was never good with analogies.

Also Oz, I'd appreciate if you'd change the title of this thread. No need to call someone useless. I think kryzak has been a valuable contributor.

You can talk about your admits in the respective school threads that already exist AND you can update your profile accordingly in the other threads. I dont see the need for another thread.

I can try to explain. The real issue is duplication. We struggle to organize the information all the time. Duplication is not taken kindly to in any forum. Just think of the chaos if everyone tries to have their own thread going about the same topic. It is a vicious cycle. The more decentralized the information is , the more difficult it is to find what you want and more duplication will occur as a result. We cannot blame joe_new_user for posting a question about something that has already been discussed, but is difficult to find.

The moderators serve as examples, not as cops. We want to be inclusive and sometimes this intent is not as obvious over the internet when we cannot see the person we are communicating with. The best forum is where no one ever feels the need to display authority. But this cannot be a one way street. We need to take care of each other and respect each other more.

As for discussions, I don't see any issue with facebook/ biryani or any of that type of discussions. All of you are real people, not robots. As long as your comments are in good taste, go for it.

Be nice. if you are not sure that something will offend, simply don't do it. People cannot hear the nuance in your voice, in your tone or on your face.

As always, if you screw up, you will know.
