Hi Silviax,

It's still not clear whether you've taken any FULL-LENGTH CATs recently, so I'm going to suggest that you take one soon (perhaps this weekend). Make sure to take the FULL CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) and take it in a realistic fashion. Once you have those score results, you should post back here. They'll provide valuable insight into how you should structure your studies.

Given the amount of 'lead time' that you have, you shouldn't necessarily concede that you can't score above 700 just yet. Once you learn the proper Tactics and get in some practice, you might be surprised at how well you could do.

Thanks for your answer.

I think a realistic goal score for me would be somewhere in the high 600s. I am pretty certain I won't be able to make it over 700 which is actually fine with me.

I will be applying for a PhD program starting in fall of 2017 so I still have time but want to be well-prepared.
Not quite sure what schools to apply to because I want to find a school with a good international management program.
South Carolina won't admit candidates for this area in 2017 so I am thinking maybe Florida and hopefully I will find some other good programs.
Any ideas?

It's interesting to read how the GMAT has changed. Is it still 5 schools that you can have your scores sent to for free?

Hi Silviax, I too am aiming for a PhD program. Rich mentioned that PhD selections are typically stringent, I am expecting myself to score at least 740 to stand a chance. May I know if high 600s would be enough?

I took a practice exam last weekend, not even a full version. Just the quant and verbal section.
Well.... the result was shocking. 100 points less than my original GMAT score with which I applied for my MBA program 2 years ago and that was pretty low back actually.

I am really shocked about this... I mean I didn't expect a great score because I just started studying a couple of weeks ago but this devastating score leads to believe that I won't even be able to score above 600.

Hi Silviax,

Given the competitive nature of most PhD Programs, you'll almost certainly need to 'up' your GMAT performance - that will require a real commitment to the study process. Skipping sections when taking a CAT is NOT realistic, so you should plan to be more stringent with the CAT-taking process (and take the FULL CAT each time).

1) What was your score on this CAT (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
2) What practice materials are you currently using?
