Reading Comprehension Tips.
Important: If you have got a question incorrect and not bother to know why you choose that wrong answer and why the correct answer is correct, you are probably not learning, after each incorrect attempt learn explanation by some experts else you are wasting your time.
Following are some of Reading comprehension tips, I found these tips floating somewhere on the forum and now posting to revive them. First author of these tips is shahnandan so credit goes to him, I have made a few edits and added some lines in it.
1. Read all RC explanations in the
OG or GMAT Club.
2. Explanations to OAs basically teach you how you should attack the RC questions (for example, whenever there is a question
"according to the passage”, it is an explicit detail question- the answer is directly stated in the passage)
3. Condense each para into a single thought, I've often found that a simple thought has been convoluted in the most complex manner possible. If you go through the LSAT passages you will notice this.
4. After reading the entire passage connect the paras by just going over what each one said. This gives the idea of the flow.
5. Look out for key words, you know what they are, and they're extremely helpful. Similar to keywords in Critical Reasoning.
6. Adopt the strategy of process of elimination (POE), I found it the best way to attack each answer choice on RC, and this method works the best.
7. Beware of topics that find a passing mention in the entire passage but do not form a part of the
"Main idea"- GMAC loves trapping us in such things, so look at the bigger picture.
8. In science passages, go through briefly when complex scientific processes are described, go back to text when a specific question is asked. LSAT passages are the best place to look for these type of passages.
9. Just be confident when you attack RC, take them by their horns!
Good Luck!
