Yah, there are some tricky words and / or phrases that the GMAT uses that are always or almost always incorrect.

Incorrect: he would do it
Correct: he would do so

Incorrect: the numbers of
Correct: the number of

Incorrect: decide whether or not
Correct: decide whether to

whats with this "do" at the end..is is more likely to be correct..i get it wrong all the time...

this sentence is trying to convey the following meaning:"Recognizing the benefits to seniors, assisted-living facilities have been encouraging pet owners to visit and interact with residents; the pets have been trained to stimulate healthy social interaction, and they do."

so, they do means "the pets stimulate healthy social interaction". so it is exactly what D is...

but this is also one of the remodled question from OG one (Californian wines).

It's probably not important to know who trained the pets.

Realised D is wrong for two more counts:

stimulate healthy interactions, having been trained to do so

- interactions is incorrect. Interaction is itself plural (like information)
- it misses some information(social in healthy social interaction) from the original passage.

Could the "and they do" in answer C be an ambiguous pronoun?
Also the "do" goes back to the verb phrase...so would it be "and they do 'have been trained to stimulate healty social interation'"?

In D, the simple sentence "pets stimulate healthy interactions" and the modifier "having been trained to do so" clearly relates back to pets and the "do so" relates back to the verb phrase "stimulate healthy interactions".

Very similar to the OG #129...

they have "sold"...not okay
they are "selling"...not okay
they do "sell"...okay matches prompt verb.
