Dear All,

Could you please suggest how much important to get a recommendation from current employer? I have been working in an organization for 3+ years. I will get a recommendation easily here from my supervisors and team leads. I am looking to change the job. If I do so, it will be difficult to get a recommendation in coming August from the new organization, in which I will have only 3 months of experience, by that time. Can I use recommendations from the previous employer?

Please let me know your valuable suggestion.

Absolutely no problem for you to go to a previous supervisor, after looking at your resume they should probably recognize why you made that choice but you might want to include this in the additional information section it's customary to include an explanation there. I have candidates going to top 5 schools without a single manager recommendation.

Hello ArupRS,

Thanks for writing in.

Getting a recommendation from your previous employer (in your case) should not create any problem at all; once the school sees your Resume, they will understand your case. Additionally, you could use your Optional Essay/Additional Information Essay to talk about your choice of recommender and candidly state that your current supervisor may not be the best person to recommend you for obvious reasons.
