Dear all,

I am currently applying to schools, and most of the schools I am applying to just opened their portals in the past two weeks. I have been asking for recommendations, but I know that my boss does not like the idea that I might leave in a year - not that I am super important and the company will fail the moment I walk out, but the tough hiring freeze we are faced with certainly makes it harder to get a replacement for me. Now, this past Friday, I shared some good work results with him early, and while he was happy, I asked him to write me two recommendation letters. He said sure and that he would be supportive, but now my question is, if say, in two weeks, he still hasn't started, then how do I follow up with him?

Applications are mostly due in late September, and in two weeks it will be early September so there isn't really much time to play the waiting game. However, I don't want to keep nagging him and make him angry. What should I do? Or how would you the more experienced folks approach this thing?

Hi stevkang8,
It is your responsibility to make sure your recommendations are sent on time. A short and polite reminder to your recommender will do the trick. You can also send the reminder through the online application (go again into the recommendations section and use the 'resend' option to send another request to the same recommender) if you don't want to
do it in person. For additional tips regarding MBA recommendations please visit: https://aringo.com/mba-recommendations-process/

Hi there!

In addition to the above recommendations, it's important to align on expectations. If you haven't heard from your recommenders in a while, maybe set up some time to discuss any questions and confirm an internal due date. Once that is established, you shouldn't feel the need to continuously remind them until that deadline passes. For other tips on recommendation letters, check out our recent guidance here. Hope this helps and best of luck!
