I wasn't sure which forum to put this in, but had a question about references for MBA internships. I'm about to leave my job in 7 days but am not in the best of terms with my manager (there is a lot of infighting, drama, and turnover within my department). I have someone who can be my reference for next year for an internship but she did not manage me and is planning on leaving the department soon. I also have many references from my old company that I can ask. My question is:
a) How important are references? Do most MBA internships ask for them?
b) Do they have to be people who managed you? Can they be peers?
c) Is it okay if they are from an older job? Or do the 3 references have to be from your most recent job?
d) Do your references still have to be at the current job?

References are not that important for internships and usually there is some flexibility in who you can give. That said, build up the summer reference as you'll need it for full-time! Also try to mend that relationship as it will help you down the line
