Hello there,
Question: During last year’s application cycle, my recommenders submitted recommendation letters for schools. However, due to personal reasons, I was unable to complete the application process. As I am now preparing for Round 1 this year, I would like to know if those previously submitted recommendations are saved in the school’s system, or if I need to find new recommenders. Can I have my recommenders submit the letters again in the current application cycle?
Thank you.
Hi
shyoo86,
For most schools, recommendation letters submitted in the previous application cycle are not automatically saved or carried over to the current cycle. Each application cycle is typically treated as a separate process, and your recommenders would have to submit again for the current cycle. Having said that, specific policies may vary among schools, and some schools may allow you to reuse recommendation letters submitted within a certain timeframe. Hence it's best to check the FAQs and/ or write an email to the schools that you applied to, to confirm their policies regarding this topic.
I suggest, even if the schools allow you to reuse recommendation letters, please obtain updated letters from your recommenders (or new recommenders) that reflect your recent achievements, growth, and goals, which may have changed during the past year. For example, they could even include points such as why you are applying again in this cycle and why your profile is stronger now (from their point of view).
All the best!
