I agree with the gentlemen above - it's great advice. You don't have to use the school's template but finding one that is neat, professional, and easy to parse through is key. However, if you aren't a huge fan of a particular school's template (for whatever aesthetic reason) don't be shy and change a few things (WITHIN REASON).

As for if the adcom cares, no, they don't. They aren't career services so they're not used to seeing their own school's template any more than they are any other particular template. So no brownie points there, unfortunately :)
