Hi all, I took the GMAT yesterday and got 720. While I am not unhappy with my score, I signed up to retake, because on my last several practice exams, I got 750, 770 and 760.
I usually have always done well on the verbal, I get 48 on every practice, so I basically did not put in any work for it during the last couple of weeks. I ended up getting 43 on verbal during the exam.
My quant is weaker, and my scores for it vary a lot, but I got 45 on the actual exam. On IR, i got 8.
I am confused as to how my verbal score suddenly for the first time dropped below my quant. How do I fix my mistakes in these 2 weeks?? I feel like like I have done every single quant question there is, and I don't know why my verbal got worse so I don't know how to improve it again, or whether it was a fluke.
I know the question is vague, but any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!!
Hey
yg1484It is important to analyze what went wrong. Few possibilities below:
1) Did you find the questions significantly tougher? If yes, then there is a chance that your practice exams just inflated your score (Unofficial exams can be off by +-40 points) -> I suggest a bigger gap and more practice before your gmat retake.
2) Did you mismanage time in exam? Or do you think that questions were easy but overconfidence might have killed you? -> I suggest that you practice more mocks focusing on time management, and retake gmat soon.
3) Any luck factor - Big RC's came very early? You were not well? Any noisy disturbances around? -> I suggest that you retake gmat soon.
4) Any other reason?
Only you can tell what went wrong, and what needs to be done depends on that. Anyway, since you are sure about re-taking exam in 2 weeks, best thing to do is to keep up the momentum by practicing more mocks and revising your weak areas.
Hope it helps!
