1) Basic demographic info: age, gender, nationality
- Venezuelan / Canadian (born and raised in venezuela, moved to Canada ~10 years ago), male, 28 yrs old
2) Educational Background: undergrad major, GPA, GMAT score, any grad work you've done
- University of Toronto (Rotman) undergrad, specialist in accounting with minor in economics 3.0 (worked full time during school terms)
- professional experience program in year 4, completed 12 months worth of internships at major Tech firm (think microsoft, oracle, etc) and Big 4 audit firm, took 5 years to graduate
- currently completing certificate in business innovation (U of Toronto)
- GMAT scheduled 5 weeks from now, mock tests (kaplan, mba.com, manhattan) get me to 700-720 biased toward verbal
3) Work experience: what is your current role? Have you had any promotions? What industry do you work in? For how long have you worked?
- Ranked top business analyst at Tier 2 consulting firm - 2 years (Deloitte / Accenture / ATK)
- plenty of firm-related ECs, focused on TMT strategy roles
- Promoted to M&A practice as a strategy consultant - 1 year
- focused on TMT pre-deal M&A and TMT strategy roles
- Senior Project Manager - type role at large canadian telco - 9 months
- managed large projects for wireless business, advised lead VP on set up of internet of things business
- Promoted to Associate director - current
- focus on setting up IoT group (strategy, forecasting, processes, etc)
4) Extracurriculars: do you participate in any extra-curricular activities? What is your role there? For how long have you been involved?
- Ugrad: founded pro-bono consulting group focused on non-profit organizations in last year, now (postgrad) act as alumnus advisor to project teams
- Post grad: founded program to train select students for management consulting recruiting, consulting to non-profits (as a project manager) through an organization founded by a work friend
5) Short/Long term goals: what do you want to do after your MBA? Any geographic preferences?
- I'd like to go back to strategy consulting in a tier 1 firm, ultimate goal is to be a director / VP in a large TMT organization in <5 years (Canada)
6) Schools: Which schools have you considered already? Any on your initial short list?
- focused on 1 year european programs (LBS, INSEAD)
- May apply to select 2 year programs in us (Tuck, MIT, Wharton)
- need to figure out safety schools
