850 = 5x + 15 y

x + y = 60

Solving Y = 55 Hence D

Bunuel, Can you please check the OA.
How can it be A, please explain?

if 5 bills of $15 = 5*15 = 75
left amount = 850-75 = $775
to pay this we would need over hundered $5 bills but as per question we have only 60 bills

Rick deposited $850 to his bank account using $5 and $15 dollar bills only. If Rick came to the bank with 70 bills and left with 10 bills only, how many $15 dollar billsმ did he deposit?

A. 5.
B. 25.
C. 50.
D. 55.
E. 65.

Given: Rick deposited $850 to his bank account using $5 and $15 dollar bills only.

Asked: If Rick came to the bank with 70 bills and left with 10 bills only, how many $15 dollar billsმ did he deposit?

Let the number of $15 bills Rick deposits be x.
The number of $5 bills Rick deposits = 60 - x

5(60-x) + 15x = 850
300 - 5x + 15x = 850
10x = 550
x = 55
