Hi everyone,
I am a female Indian candidate with a background in forensic auditing who is looking to transition into MC. I have been admitted to the Full-time MBA program (all are STEM-designated courses) of the following schools:
1.
UNC Kenan-Flagler with USD 100k (forte fellowship) funding and a dean's fellowship
Pros
- Better Brand
- Decent ratio of international candidates (35%)
- Almost 25% of the class gets places in MC
- Target school for both recruiting and pre-MBA events of MBB and many other reputed consulting firms
- Wider job base in terms of having PM and finance roles so more secure in terms of pursuing a plan B, if it comes to it
Cons
- I have heard career services don't offer much support and international candidates are more or less on their own
- School has had trouble retaining people in their management
- Chapel Hill location not ideal for networking
- Bain has not hired from KF in the past 5-7 years at least
2.
Emory - Goizueta with USD 100k scholarship
Pros
- Greater networking opportunities because of the Atlanta location, I don't know how much weight I should put on this
- Almost 50% of the class gets into MC
- Less rigorous academics hence more time to focus on recruiting and networking
- 50% international candidates
Cons
- slightly lower ranked than UNC-KF
- Not sure if it is as strong as UNC-KF in terms of its reach in MBBs
* I don't know much about the quality of support provided by the career services centre to international candidates
3.
Rice - Jones with a USD 90k scholarship
Pros
- Might have a slight edge in networking because of the Houston location.
- 42% international candidates
Cons
- Lowest ranked among the US schools I am accepted to.
- Oil & Gas seem to be Rice's stronghold and I have no experience or interest to be in that industry
* I don't know much about the quality of support provided by career services center to international candidates
4.
Rotman with CAD 20k funding
Pros
- Rank 1 in Canada
- Rotman students would have a shot at all premium jobs in the Canadian market
- No visa struggles in the short-term or long-term (no hassle of H1B and finding companies who are willing to sponsor international candidates)
Cons
- Limited professional growth opportunities
- Significantly low salaries compared to the US, hence worst in terms of RoI among the options in front of me
- Canadian job market puts more weight on pre-MBA experience for consideration to evaluate candidates for post-MBA roles
I think at the end of the day these are peer schools but I am having a hard time deciding among them and I am also struggling with US vs. Canada conundrum.
I feel the US would provide more opportunities for professional growth but there would always be a struggle in terms of visa uncertainties in the long run for sure. Conversely, Rotman would offer an easy path to immigration though professional opportunities would be limited.
1. Which school would you choose and why?
2. Which school has a better domestic and global reputation?
3. If some years down the line I want to, can I move to Canada after getting my MBA and some work experience from the USA?
Any insights would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
