Hi all
I've given my GMAT exam twice, and got the same overall score with different splits:
1. 710 - Q49 V37 (September)
2. 710 - Q46 V42 (October)
I've accepted both scores but am wondering if it will make sense to cancel the 2nd one.
My thoughts for cancelling the 2nd score:
1. If a college gets 2 reports with the same overall report, they'd take it negatively since I've already applied with the first one and then after a month I took the exam again and still didn't get a better score.
2. The Quant score is very low, and the adcom would consider that as a weakness for my application (I'm already applying with a low engineering GPA)
3. This split seems more "balanced"
My thoughts for retaining the 2nd score:
1. The verbal score is quite high for my highly overrepresented demographic which is known for higher Quant and lower Verbal.
2. It shows that I can perform decently well in Quant and Verbal, and no matter the day or the situation I'm still in the top 10 percentile of scores. One may be having a better score on a particular day but I can handle both.
Would really appreciate your inputs on this one!

First of all, congratulations on your fantastic verbal score. I’m sorry that the Kwanten come down during the last few months, it is fairly common for one score to go down when you focus mostly on the other. It was very common but very impressive job! The two scores combined if there were such a thing, and there isn’t but if you took your best quantum your best verbal, it could easily be 740 or 750.
Only the score you have applied with will be considered. So if you have use the first score, and put it on the application, that missions team will not be rushing to check if you have gotten another score to update your application. I it is rare for them to update scores after the deadline or at least for the top 20. (Some schools may do it if you have a low score but usually that’s lower rank programs).
I feel you could keep both scores. Again if you have already applied, they probably will not consider your second score but if you’re playing around two or if there is a very slight chance they do peek at it, it shows a great improvement. Sure your Quan score has gone down, but it’s not like you became dumber or stupider in the last three months. You’ve already demonstrated your quantitative capacity and the second score now demonstrates a verbal ability …
In terms of which score to use for applications, it depends on your story and your message. Traditionally people have chosen the stronger Quant scores since business school test to be Quant heavy And there is the belief that admissions wants to see a solid quantitative background. However, admissions often looks for diverse candidates in the diverse class. They may want a philosopher or a someone who’s not necessarily very strong in Quant and a strong verbal score is a good illustration. But ultimately, very few admissions teams really care about what your score split was and how many points of what kind you got if you have over 700.
For most applicants, 710 is a solid score. If you are from an overrepresented group, that it may be a bit on the weaker side. If you are an Indian engineer and shooting for a top 20 in the United States, do you need a 750 as a male engineer.

First off, a 710/Q49 is an outstanding Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. You're ultimately asking an Admissions question though, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

First off, a 710/Q49 is an outstanding Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. You're ultimately asking an Admissions question though, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:
