Hi everyone.
I am planning to apply for B schools this year and have started taking mock tests. I am however not able to cross the 505 line in the gmat focus edition mock tests and it really has been quite demotivating. I want to apply to schools on the same tier as carnegie mellon and foster business school but even that seems like a distant vision right now. I do have a goal pre mba and post mba, from a big 4 consulting having 2 years of work experience. I want to understand, if I tend to score on the 555 range, will I still be able to apply and get into similar schools.
I have been very discouraged since I've started my mock tests.
Any advice would be welcome. Thank you.
Posted from my mobile deviceHey! First of all, don't be discouraged at all. Try to analyze your test and understand your weak areas. Working on the weak areas will ensure that you don't make the same errors repeatedly and help you improving your score. Whether the score is good or not depends on a lot of factors i.e. (1) Overall acads, (2) The kind of work experience you have had, and (3) LOR's
Let me know if you want to discuss in detail or if you need help in developing a test-taking strategy/study plan and we can set up a call for it.
Following is the approach you can use to analyse your responses and ask yourself these questions:
- You got the problem right in reasonable time – was it logic or luck?
- You got the problem right but took too long – at what point did you get stuck, is there an easier way to solve the problem?
- You fell for a trap or made a careless mistake – was it because you were running out of time or you casually overlooked? How can you rectify it in future sessions?
- You were not sure of how to solve the problem – what do you need to study? In what way can I remember it while practicing next time?
- You were running out of time and had to guess a series of problems: Did I spend too much time on a particular question(s)? Did I get it right/wrong? How do I ensure that I don’t spend more than 2 minutes on a question in any scenario?
- You won’t be able to solve this problem even in actual test – how do you guess it and move on?
