It is good you have the Deloitte name on your resume! That will go a long way for job search.
How would the summer internship work with the Schulich program? Is there one?

Yes, there is a formal summer internship program which can be done after the 2nd term (May-Aug) or after the 3rd term (Sept-Dec).

Hi,
You have good profile. If your gmat score, as you have mentioned, is really 680 then you should not join any of these programs.

If you're only targeting Canada, you can apply to Rotman, McGill, Ivey and Queen's, otherwise there are a number of great schools that you can apply to in UK and US.

Well, I hope that helps.

For an Indian engineer male applicant like me getting into Rotman would require 700+ GMAT.
The 1 year program at Queens/Ivey is not really well suited for me.

I am still considering McGill as an option but haven't applied yet.

I believe that Asian applicants worry too much about their GMAT score (please don’t take me wrong). It's just one component of the application.

Yes, this becomes important when you apply to the US where the % of international applicants admitted is lower and the number of applicants is higher.

But this is not the case for UK and Canada. If you have a GMAT score above their average, you can get an admission to the program given that you are not extremely bad in other parameters.

Do you think you will be able to find an internship in Canada? With Schulich program? It’s no use to get an internship in India if you’re planning to recruit in Canada. I personally don’t think it’s very realistic to expect an internship while recruiting from overseas.

Yes that is a point of concern. However, once you complete 2 terms in India, there is an option of studying during the summer term (May-August) in the Toronto campus and subsequently trying for internship in the next term.

Hello, from what I've heard, Co-op's aren't as important in a post graduate program as they are in an undergraduate program because 9/10 graduate candidates would already have some sort of work experience. I don't know much about Schulich's MBA program (I'm an MF candidate), but I have heard very good things about their MBA program. They have a good ROI, better than most Canadian schools apparently. I think the only downside to this program in Schulich is that the first year will be in India. It is one less year to build up your network in Canada (since that is where you would like to secure a full time job).

It all depends on what your priorities are. Degroote's co-op option gives you an insight into the type of career you are looking for and you can then decide if you really do like it or if you want to venture towards another field. If we're strictly talking about the name of the school then I would pick Schulich.

Location wise both schools are in Ontario, I'm sure recruiters from Toronto would be present in both. Tuition costs may also be a factor for you, Schulich's tuition can be fairly pricey, not sure about the tuition costs of Degroote.

I hope this helps, good luck!

Most (not all) but most companies have summer internships. The only fall/winter internships I am familiar with are not formal ones (e.g. network or continuing the summer internship in a small company/startup) so I would not count on a fall internship.... unless the university somehow guarantees it (unusual to guarantee anything but sometimes they have consulting projects and such that act as mini-internships).

I would consider it more of a 1-year MBA type of thing. Your Deloitte brand name will be helpful and will get you interviews compared to your classmates with smaller names and it is possible to recruit for a job without an internship as long as you are not pivoting/changing industry/throwing away your experience.

Thanks for the insights. I would definitely like to change functions within the consulting industry. Schulich provides the brand name and network while DeGroote provides Canadian work experience. Hence the confusion

Thanks for sharing such a detailed response!
The points you mentioned makes a lot of sense and I am also considering these factors while trying to come to a conclusion.

I know you PM'd me about this too. But I think Schulich is a better brand to be associated woth when you're in Canada.

They have a Strong Alumni Network and a good presence in there.
