Hi All,

I am writing this post in order to seek some guidance and help. My official GMAT is scheduled on Oct 24, 2018(I deferred my exam from Oct 9 though). I tried second GMAT exam today from mba.com/exam-prep and ended up with score 500. I've been struggling with my scores from the very beginning and this is far the worst score I've gotten. I was in good condition though.I've been committed my time into this GMAT prep for last few months sacrifying my family. I feel even guilty now and really angry at myself. My verbal dropped from 30 to 21.
I would like to ask you all what are the chances that I will get score higher than 550 on my exam day. My target is not even high- just anything over 550.
I did several tests from Manhatten prep and scores were
510-530-540-550-550.
Also I did problem set in mba site and I got almost everything above average. Do I need to...give up now?

I have previous experience with CPA, FRM and CFA exams and had great success. I am so stressed. Any encouraing words or guidance would be highly appreciated.

Hi Haelim,

You need not give up after coming so close to your target score. You still have a few days till your test and you must make the most of it. You must review all the tests you have taken so far to figure out the topics in which you are making mistakes and reasons for making those mistakes. Work on those errors, revise your notes and questions that you may have kept for revision. Incase you need help in identifying the topics in which you must improve, you can take Ability Quizzes (links given below) and identify the topics from the Skill Data section.

In addition to these quizzes, I would recommend that you read this article on Time Management Strategies to maximize your score. This article will help you create a timing strategy to reach your target score.

Hope this helps! Please feel free to write to us at support@e-gmat.com for any further queries.

Regards,
Aditee

Hi
I would suggest to revise everything that you have studied so far. If you are using MGMAT guides go through each of them again. Analyze the tests that you have appeared for thoroughly and note your mistakes. Practice questions from the OG and analyze the right as well as the wrong answers. Check if there is any topic that you are weak in or are you making silly mistakes. Since your target is 550+, it may be achievable, but I would suggest to postpone your Gmat and aim higher. A 700+ will boost your chances of admission to most colleges. Though a 700+ will take atleast 3-4 months of preparation.
All the best.

Hi Haelim,

The scoring algorithm on the Official GMAT is far more complicated than most people realize. Since that algorithm is proprietary, no GMAT company has an exact match for it, thus CAT scores can vary a bit based on the 'biases' involved in their respective designs. The most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC (the 2 free CATs, and each of the 2 that come with Exam Pack 1 and Exam Pack 2), so have you taken any of THOSE CATs - and if you did, then how did you score (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores?

Assuming that the practice CAT Scores that you listed are accurate, then a Score Goal of 550 is absolutely achievable on Test Day. In addition, you do NOT need to correctly answer ANY questions that you think are too hard or too weird - as long as you are keeping the little mistakes to a minimum on everything else.

Thank you so much for your reply . This is far the best advice . Yes I did gmat tests with verbal 28-21 and quant 38-39. I kicked myself when I reviewed wrong answered questions as I could solve them all under non exam mode. Apparently I have basic concept just my approach needs to be revised. I just realized that I keep forgetting “cross off” techniques on my verbal. Thanks.

Hi Haelim,

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. First off, NO, you cannot give up! Clearly you have been putting in the time and effort, so you just need to keep your head down and keep moving forward, OK? I realize you have only 9 days until your exam, but you are only 50 points from your score goal. Take some time to review your wrong answers from your practice exam and continue to work on improving weak areas until a few days before your test.

Additionally, you MUST go into your GMAT with a clear and fresh mind. If you are worried about what will happen, your performance likely will suffer. So, try to stay calm between now and your exam.

If you need anything else, feel free to reach out to me directly. I’ve got your back.

Let’s do this!!
