Take a course.
Go for Egmat/Gmatwhiz for Verbal.
And Target test prep for Quant.

Hi MichelKesin,

To start, thinking about studying for the GMAT far in advance of when you will actually "need" your Score is a smart choice. That having been said, many GMATers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores - and 15-20 hours of study a week is fairly common. Thus, if you don't think that you can commit that amount of time right now (because of work/life/etc.), then you should consider pushing that start-date back a bit (for when you think you will have that free time).

Raising a 420 to a 500 is an absolutely achievable goal; raising it to a 600 - while also achievable - would almost certainly mean that you would have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections (and that training will take time).

1) What study materials do you currently have access to?
2) If you were to start studying soon, how many hours do you think you could consistently study each week?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi MichelKesin,

To answer your question, you ARE NOT hopeless. Yes, it will take some work to get to 500+ but if you can study smart and work hard, I do not see any reason why you can’t achieve your GMAT score goal.

I know the thought of studying for the GMAT may seem daunting but start off slow and as you build up steam you can increase the number of study hours you put in each week. Over time, GMAT studying will be as normal to you as going to work every day and once you hit that “normalcy” point, I bet that you will become less anxious.
