Hi
JINXGMAT,
Congrats on the first attempt. Lots of positive and improvement takeaways here, I would say.
You are good with Quant. First thing is to level it up by cutting down mistakes on easier questions. With 4 wrong and an 80 score, I’d guess you might have gotten 1–2 easy ones wrong, probably from one of your weaker areas. But remember, to really push your score or get into the 90+ percentile range, you’ll need to cover your base well, including those weaker areas. I have a hunch you’ll pick this up quickly, so this is a good place to start.
With Verbal, try solving CR questions topic-wise. Start with the Assumption family (Assumption/Strengthen/Weaken), then move to Inference/Evaluate. For each topic, begin with easy questions and don’t move up until you’re hitting ~90% accuracy in a set. You can use Marty’s streak method if that helps. Also, don’t just focus on getting answers right. Focus on eliminating wrong options and building the right way to think about the question within ~2 minutes. If you’re getting confused between two options, it usually means the technique isn’t fully there yet, so build that first before moving on.
For DI, what you’re seeing is pretty normal. Most people struggle with time management, especially on MSR and TPA. First thing here is to get better with Q & V fundamentals. Once that improves, you’ll naturally start connecting the dots faster. After that, focus on timing. There are many small strategies, but the main shift is learning how to grasp only the important data quickly, because you won’t have time to absorb everything. For MSR, in practice, try time-boxing yourself to understand the overall data within 3–4 minutes max and then move to the questions, no matter how complex the tabs look. The key is knowing where the data is, not learning everything upfront like RC. There are some test-taking strategies you’ll slowly build across the section. I’ve written a few useful articles on this which you can find in my signature if you want to take a look.
All the best!

Hi everyone, I gave my first attempt at GMAT yesterday and got scores of Q80 V79 DI77 and
total of 575. From what I felt while writing the exam, I was pretty confident of my accuracy on Quants, Verbal was going strong until the last passage came up and I meesed up time management resulting in 3 continuous incorrect CR questions towards the end. DI was a total mess, decided to go for accuracy but did not give respect to time and felt the pressure with solving 10 questions in the last 15 minutes.
Quantitative Reasoning – 80Strengths:QUANTS: 80
Algebra ( Rates / Ratios / Percent) : 100th percentileWeaker areas:- Counting / Sets / Probability / Statistics: ~40–45th percentile
- Number Properties & basic Arithmetic: ~50th percentile
Despite strong performance overall (only 4 wrong), my score seems to have been capped due to mistakes in sets, counting, and number property questions
Verbal Reasoning – 79
Strengths:
- Reading Comprehension: ~79th percentile
- Inference questions: ~82nd percentile
Weaknesses:
- Critical Reasoning overall: ~37th percentile
- Assumption / Analysis / Critique questions particularly weak
Observation: RC comprehension does not appear to be an issue, but I struggled with consistent CR conversion, especially under time pressure.
Data Insights – 77
Relative strengths:
- Data Sufficiency: ~68th percentile
- Graphs & Tables: ~60th percentile
Weaknesses:
- Two‐Part Analysis: ~35th percentile
- Multi‐Source Reasoning: ~45–50th percentile
Observation: Time management seems to be a major issue here: spending too long early (especially on MSR / Two‐Part) and then rushing later questions, and even skipping by guessing too.
Prep time: 2.5 months
Sources used: Extensive use of GMAT OG, Official questions on GMAT Club and GMAT Club tests.
Target score: 670+Looking for insights from the community
(expert tutors, recent test takers, subject expert) on these aspects. I really need guidance of someone who can help me, as I am looking for an early reattempt due to B-school application deadlines.
Thankyou!
spite strong performance in advanced algebra, my score seems to have been capped due to mistakes in medium‐difficulty arithmetic, counting, and number property questions — areas that are heavily penalized if missed.
