Hi Lulugrace,

You should dedicate around 2 months to improve your score. It’s a good thing you have taken your GMAT once. You now know your weaknesses and work on them. If you are willing to study dedicatedly for two months, you are sure to achieve your goal. I believe you may benefit from taking a GMATPREP course. If you are willing, there are some great GMAT prep companies that can help you with your preparation.

In order to make an informed decision I would highly encourage you to go to their websites and try on their free trial and decide for yourself which one do you like better. You try out free access to EmpowerGMAT, Magoosh and Optimus Prep as they have great reviews on GMATCLUB.

Also for verbal, I would highly encourage you to consider e-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live course. They are both amazing courses especially designed for non-natives. They offer almost 25% of their courses for free so you can try out their free trial to decide which one you want to go for. Plus the e-gmat Scholaranium which is included in both the courses is one of the best verbal practice tools in the market. You can easily track your progress in that you can identify your strengths and analyze and improve on your weak areas.

You can also try out the MGMAT guides they are phenomenal and cover the entire syllabus really well.I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in Quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practise tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.

Lastly I would also encourage you to purchase the latest version of OG and the verbal review for some great additional practice. Here is a link that will help you with your decision.

Hope this helps. All the best.

Hi thank you for your response tanvi9 :-)

I used the OG guide 2017 for practice questions as well as Magoosh online. My approach was to practice questions as much as possible and go over concepts as and when I needed to. I am aware now that there are some basic areas I need to brush up on (and learn formulas for etc.).

I actually found the quant questions on test day quite simple questions (I found in my practices that often I had to spend quite a bit of time working out what the question was asking before attempting a solution, but this wasn't so much the case in the real thing for me). That the level of question seemed simple also sort of threw me a bit and I was thinking about it a bit too much probably! Like I said, some of the simple questions I just couldn't remember the formula for so I def need to brush up on some simple concepts.

Hi, its a good sign that you found the questions simple.
although I would like to mention that to some of the simple questions , the answers are just a little bit tricky, as in there would be choices that would lure into opting for the wrong ones.
overall the concept of gmat questions is mostly fundamental and less formula based. try kaplan advance for that, all simple questions but there will be somewhere very basic logics that you need to consider while answering. Mgmat is good for clearing out concepts and apllication. try gmatclub quant questions after you have finished these, as they are known to be the best quant questions available. After this give mocks and see if you have improved.
good luck

Hi Lucy,

If you consistently perform at such a high level in the Verbal section, then you could very easily retest in 1-2 months and score at a much higher level in the Quant. However, you'll have to make some significant changes to how you handle that section of the Test. A Q35 means that you made lots of little mistakes in the Quant section on Test Day and missed out on lots of 'strategy-based' points. Based on what you described, you worked through lots of practice questions, without focusing much on Tactics, patterns or learning the little 'secrets' of the Exam. Your next round of studies should focus more on all of those areas (as well as any 'holes' in your content knowledge).

1) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
2) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
