Scored 670 Q49 V33 - Advice needed for improvement

Question

Hi Experts, I appeared for my GMAT exam last month and scored 670. Not sure if I should be happy for this score but I took a lot of hard work for me to get here

My earlier 2 attempts were: 540 Q41 V23 640 Q49 V27 I am planning to apply in R1 - 2019, so I believe I should try to improve my score further. Can someone help me in improving in both areas? What do you think would be a good course to improve my Quant score to Q50? I have heard a lot about Math Revolution. Appreciate the suggestions on this. And also like to know how good is V33 score? How much should I need to improve on this? I am trying to shoot for somewhere near to 720 or more with a Q50. PS: I have already started my research on schools and admission consulting options. Hi Sumit, You have shown a great progression in your scores from your past attempts. I would focus on Verbal if I were you. Getting a Q 50 would only increase your score by 10-20 points max. However if you focus on Verbal, you can easily increase it by at least 5 Points, bringing your overall score above 700. For verbal, I would highly encourage you to consider e-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live course. They are both amazing courses especially designed for non-natives. They offer almost 25% of their courses for free so you can try out their free trial to decide which one you want to go for. Plus the e-gmat Scholaranium which is included in both the courses is one of the best verbal practice tools in the market. You can easily track your progress in that you can identify your strengths and analyze and improve on your weak areas. Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas. Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practise tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that. Hi Sumit,

Looking at your ESR I can tell you that you have a great chance to improve in Verbal as you have scored only 46 %ile in SC. Your RC score is amazing and that is a big positive for you. Focus on SC first and then on CR, and you will see a big leap in your score.

Hi Sumit,

First off, a 670/Q49 is a strong score (it's right around the 80th percentile overall), so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. You've made some really nice improvements to your GMAT Scores over time - and with a 670 you are actually closer to a 720+ than you probably realize. To consistently score at that higher level though, you will have to make some fundamental changes to how you "see" (and respond to) the Test.

Before we discuss the data in your ESR, I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:

1) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
2) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
3) Assuming you retest, when are you planning to retake the GMAT?

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. First off, a Q49 is a great score, so nice job, my friend!! Now, let’s discuss your ESR. For quant, it’s clear that Sets and Geometry are your weakest topics; however, you really need to take the information from your ESR with a grain of salt. Remember, your ESR is based on only 31 quant questions. So, for example, does your scoring 100% in Rates/Ratios/Percents mean that you are devoid of weakness in those topics? Not necessarily. To improve from a Q49 to a Q50/51, ensure that you are following a study routine that allows you to go through ALL of GMAT quant carefully to find your exact weaknesses, fill gaps in your knowledge, and strengthen your skills.

Regarding verbal, since you scored a V27, you really need to make a major improvement in verbal to hit your 720 score goal. Looking at your ESR, since you scored in the 57th and 46th percentiles for Critical Reasoning and Sentence Correction, respectively, it’s clear that you lack some of the fundamental verbal skills necessary for a high score. To increase those skills, you need to follow a study plan that allows you to learn the foundations of Sentence Correction and Critical Reasoning prior to moving to more advanced concepts. By following a gradual and linear approach, you will ensure that you are methodically improving your skills such that no stone is left unturned.
