It's due to the difficulty level of questions faced in the exam. It needs to be noted that the difficulty level of questions counts highly towards making the score.

All the best.

Hi,

I just took the GMAT focus and received my score report. I got a score of 79 for quant (59th percentile). I'm really confused as to how I achieved such a low score with only two questions wrong. I got 79. It was the 1st and 20th question. Is it normal for my score to be this low?

You are not the only one unfortunately. We have had another report a few weeks ago about the same exact outcome.
It really does not make sense... not logical. The only aspect I can think of is that GMAC has been trying to strech out the quant scores and percentiles. In the past the top Q51 was a 93rd percentile and Q49 was a 79th which made some people feel a bit uncomfortable. GMAC I guess wanted to change things up with Focus, but it really does not make sense how 90% correct results into 59th percentile :(

Hi Aqua33,

As the others have pointed out, this doesn't seem to be exactly uncommon. I don't know whether we can say that this is normal, but it does seem that FE quant scoring can be quite harsh.

I would also add that I have not run into a scenario like this in GMAT prep. I’ve taken it numerous times, missing quite a few questions and I think the lower score I got with six wrong was 79.

So I feel the 79 was two mistakes does not happen regularly. Instead it’s a collection of factors such as difficulty of the overall test and the difficulty of the questions you miss.

My quant score in GMAT Focus Practice test 1 was 79 with 10 incorrect answers.
That seems an excessively generous score.

Questions 1 - 5 : correct
Questions 6 - 7: incorrect
Questions 8 - 10: correct (very behind on time already)
Question 11: incorrect (didn't read the question as the stem was too long)
Questions 12 - 13: correct
Questions 14 - 21: running out of time, answered A for all, one answer turned out right

For Question 8, I corrected the answer during review. I had realised my error immediately after submitting it.

Hi! As everyone pointed out, it's an unusual score. I think you will just have to take it with a pinch of salt. 1st and 20th wrong - in no way the score should have dipped to 79.

I also have a quite odd experience with my Quant Results in the real test and the practice tests.

In the real test, I scored 79 in Quant with three questions wrong. I changed question #1 from incorrect to correct later.

In one of the practice exams, I scored 83 in Quant with five questions wrong, including question #1. I changed question #6 from incorrect to correct later.

In my first practice exam, I scored 77 in Quant with seven questions wrong, including the last one unanswered.

I don't know what it is, but I cannot really understand the difference between the quant scores in the practice tests and the real tests, especially because the Verbal and DI scores really make sense when compared between the real test and practice tests.
