After hatching on the beach, the turtles enter the water to begin their far-ranging migration, only returning to their birthplace to nest some 15 to 30 years later. Hyothesis : New borns learn the smell and that stimulates Turtle to return to their nest ( birthplace )
A -INCORRECT- life span has no correlation with their ability to smell and this being a factor for their return ..
B- INCORRECT -range is also irrelevelant to the hypothesis 
C- INCORRECT- whether beach present or destroyed doesn’t add any thing to the evaluation of hypothesis ..
E-INCORRECT -whether both sex involved or not has no correlation to the hypothesis .

D- CORRECT- 
a) turtle outside the area where the smell is not perceptible - strengthen the hypothesis that the turtle learn the smell and that make them return back .
b) turtle outside the area where the smell is perceptible - weaken the claim that turtle learn the smell and that makes them return back

The conclusion says that the smell sense of turtles is the reason for their return , 
so we have to see for this options which is related toquestion whose answer gives us clarity .

A. The life span of sea turtle is not related to the argument. 
B. The migration range isn't related to the smell either , as nothing about the relation between the range and smell is given.
C. The beaches may either be destroyed or not, but if the smell is still there, they might still return, destruction by development doesn't affect the relation here.
D. CORRECT, this option questions the relation about the smell persistent area and outside region , if they are outside the region and still return to home, then it is not the smell sense , on contrary its the reason of smell sense. hence true.
E How they involved in nesting process is out of scope.

I think the grammar of this sentence isn't clear! I mean what does the "outside the area where the smell is perceptible" mean?
Does it mean that the turtles are outside of the area that has the smell and so are unable to perceive it anymore?
OR
Does it mean that the turtles are outside of the area but are still near enough that the smell is perceptible at the place where they are at?
This is very confusing to me. Can someone please explain if possible? Thank You.
