Hi All,

I am Sarah from Halifax, NS and I am considering the Ted Roger's MBA at TMU. I plan to go in Sept 2024, I have a Bachelor of Commerce and therefore can be exempt from the spring/ summer courses. I have started my GMAT prep and I am hoping to take the official test by Sept of this year.

I don't know anyone studying for the GMAT and I was wondering if anyone is in a similar boat and wanted to discuss GMAT material as well as if there's any general feedback about the TMU (Ryerson) MBA. I would like to move to Toronto and I am hoping to have a good ROI on my education without spending $100k (U of T). I also appreciate that they have an accelerated program and allow students with business backgrounds to start in the fall.

However, I have a heard mixed reviews and would love to know if I should widen my scope and anything I should be aware of.

Thanks!
I had someone who got into Ted rogers / OR Pool / 680 GMAT who landed full tuition scholarship.
School has a great location advantage

Hi sarahrobicheau,

As for Ted Rogers MBA at TMU, it offers several benefits in your context. The exemption from spring/summer courses can save you time, allowing you to complete your degree faster. However, an important part of the MBA experience is networking and in-person interactions, so skipping the foundation course is not always a great idea: I would suggest keeping this in mind while making this decision.

The program's focus on applied learning, industry connections, and experiential opportunities can be advantageous for your career growth post MBA. You require a minimum of two years of industry experience to enroll into the Ted Rogers MBA, among other TMU-specific requirements.

Moreover, Toronto provides access to a vibrant business community and networking opportunities. Considering your goal of maximizing ROI, the Ted Rogers MBA offers a more affordable option. The cost of living for students in Toronto is approximately 1500$ to 1900$ (Canadian Dollars). Thus, you will not be spending considerably less than $100K in your time frame of the MBA program. There are also scholarship opportunities you can avail, to minimize your finances. The flexible part-time and full-time study options that you can potentially pursue would give you opportunities to work as well. These latter points also apply to other schools.

I would suggest also applying to other good universities in the Toronto area, as diversifying your risk (of acceptance) is always good, given that B-school admissions are quite competitive. Each school has its own strengths and unique features, so compare them based on factors important to you, including brand, post-MBA goals-fit, culture, alumni network and cost.

Regarding your GMAT prep, I hope you are aware of the new Focus Edition that GMAT will soon release (in Q4 2023). There are several factors to keep in mind during your preparation with respect to the change in curriculum of the exam (e.g. Sentence Correction & Geometry have been removed, a new Data Insights section has been introduced, etc.), including whether to take the new Focus Edition or the current one.

Feel free to reach out to know more about GMAT, profile evaluation and other steps if you feel I can be of help :)
