I came across this question during an FE mock, and I suspect there is a problem in this question - it seems to me that there could be multiple correct answers. I know that this goes against GMAT's core rules, but I just couldn't figure out the explanation.
Can anyone please help? The question screenshot is attached below.
I'm stuck between the first two options for "least" and the last two options for "greatest".
To choose between these, we need to know whether x is greater than y or less than y. But there is no way to figure this out.
If I choose R=12=2+3+7, then x=1 and y=4.
But if I choose R=12=1+5+6, then x=4 and y=1.
Each of these 2 scenarios give different answer choices.
Can anyone please help? The question screenshot is attached below.
