Hi! I have been trying to start my gmat prep but always end up worrying about whether to study on my own or get a test prep course. I gave a diagnostic a few months ago and I was somewhere around the early 600s, my target being 720-740. I need solid advice on strategy and whether it makes sense to invest in a course. I have about 3 months with a pretty hectic job.

I am definitely not looking for a classroom program. Need to get tricks/shortcuts/concepts in video form. Was wondering if somebody who tried self-prep can share their two cents!

When it comes to training for the GMAT, there are a variety of different study materials that you might choose to use - so choosing to work with materials that best match your 'personality' is a smart choice. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) What type of study - if any - have you put in so far? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials do you currently have access to? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Regarding prep courses, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

You also may find it helpful to read this article about how to score a 700+ on the GMAT.

Dear Pri0710,
I share view of Sainath123; I use the TTP service to ameliorate my verbal score, because its well structured study plan and unique approach already helped me to improve my Quant score. I have not consummated the Verbal module yet, but what do I say is that its curriculum not only covers all general topics but also provides step by step guide to cement the acquired knowledge.

Yet, if you are good at self-studying, you can take the materials alluded by Archit3110.

hello i think you should go for self study if you have enough time in hand.
as courses not gonna help you much apart from prep material for which books are sufficient
