Hi!

I am planning on giving my GMAT this Nov- Dec and I am going to do it myself. I am quite clueless on where to start from cause different websites have different approaches and i am completely confused. It would be great if anyone could help me out on how to start preparing.

Ps: This is my first attempt

Also, do you think it's a good idea to self study for my first attempt?

Thanks in advance!

Hi romalbhojani,

Welcome to GMATCLUB. 4 months is good enough to achieve your target score. You should start by taking a GMAT Mock once. You can then know your weaknesses and can work on them. If you are willing to study dedicatedly for that period, you are sure to achieve your goal. I think you need to solidify you base and adopt a proper technique to answer the questions. I believe you may benefit from taking a GMATPREP course. If you are willing, there are some great GMAT prep companies that can help you with your preparation.

In order to make an informed decision I would highly encourage you to go to their websites and try on their free trial and decide for yourself which one do you like better. You try out free access to EmpowerGMAT, Magoosh and TTP as they have great reviews on GMATCLUB.

If you are looking for a good course in verbal, I would highly encourage you to consider e-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live course. They are both amazing courses especially designed for non-natives. They offer almost 25% of their courses for free so you can try out their free trial to decide which one you want to go for. Plus the e-gmat Scholaranium which is included in both the courses is one of the best verbal practice tools in the market. You can easily track your progress in that you can identify your strengths and analyze and improve on your weak areas.

I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in Quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practice tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.

I would also encourage you to purchase GMATPREP QP 1 for some great additional practice.

Lastly, you can check out a very interesting article by Mike McGarry from Magoosh detailing a 3 month study plan

https://magoosh.com/gmat/2012/3-month-g ... -students/. You will find it very helpful as it gives out a study plan as per your needs.

Hope this helps. All the best.

I've been self-studying too. I scored a 310 on my first practice and I don't have the option to go to classes. I'm broke broke and looking for a job.
For me, I think knowing how you study is the most important. For me, I'm too broke for classes BUT it's not much of a loss because I've always done better in self-study classes rather than being taught. With a good plan and knowing how you study (and being diligent with your studies) I think you'll do fine :)
Good luck!

Hello romalbhojani,

Welcome to GMAT Club. We will first recommend you to appear for a free diagnostic test on https://www.mathrevolution.com. Also, check our free trial pack and free-video lesson.

GMAT is not as easy as we assume. GMAT math is logic, and verbal is a real language test of an individual. You need to make sure that you get any possible combination to achieve your target score of 720+.GMAT 720+ is 94 percentile and above. V37/Q50 V39/Q49, V43/Q45 are some possible combinations to get desired score of 720+.

What you need at the start is a detailed study plan for both the sections: Verbal and Quant. Also, make sure that you focus more on learning the basic concepts and then practice as many as questions possible. Also, until you can track your performance, you won’t get enough confidence to beat the GMAT. And for this, you will need diagnostic tests.

Apart from this, what exactly you need :

1. A unique, alternative approaches to solve quant questions in a short period, thus saving the time of yours and increase accuracy and finally the score.
2. Up-To-Date questions that meet GMAT exam trends. You don’t need to waste your time on outdated questions here and there.
3. An expert to resolve your queries related to Quant sections individually.

Let us know if you have further questions.

You can reach us at info@mathrevolution.com.

Success is within your reach.

Good luck!

I am no expert but I would suggest you start by giving an official mock test to have a benchmark of your current level of ability on the test.

After that, I personally depend on manhattan GMAT prep guides, either buy the whole set and go through them one by one methodically.

Or if you think you cant get away with self-study look for a coaching centre.

Regards
Chetan.
