If you don't have to use any extra resource (time, money, whatever) to do an interview..I'd say...just go for it.
Get the experience of interviewing without pressure..maybe it's fun.

Using NYU as a leverage...I would say you can try (no harm in negotiating..I saw a thread somewhere in this forum about this), but personally I don't think it will work.
Theyr'e B n K..and it's a pretty loaded year in terms of quality apps.

OK, application withdrawn. Thanks for the opinions, but I can't spend the time/money/effort (Stern interviews MUST be conducted on campus) for a school that I don't want to attend anymore.

Well, you withdrawing will certainly not have any impact on your friend's chances because it's not like the admissions committee decides to interview "x" number of applicants only. It's still too early in the applications cycle for NYU Stern to worry about complex yield projections, and so if NYU Stern finds your friend's application compelling he will get an interview invitation irrespective of your decision to pursue the interview or not.

Assuming traveling to New York isn't prohibitively expensive, I think you should go ahead and interview just to "greenlight" another school on your profile! :) And who knows, you might meet someone, fall in love, and decide to live in New York anyway. :P

haha, i actually met a student when i was doing school visits that met his current boyfriend at a stern event. they both got in, but the student decided to matriculate at another school and they're still together! so yes, you could fall in love.
