I recently spoke with the Admissions Director at ESCP, and she mentioned that age could be a concern in the full-time MBA class. She suggested I consider the Executive MBA instead. I explained that I am still relatively new to the field and believe that a full-time MBA would be a better fit for me at this stage.

Should I take her advice as a sign not to apply, or would it still be worth submitting my application? I'd love to hear thoughts from anyone who has been in a similar situation or has insight into how strictly age is considered in the admissions process.

Since the Admissions Director would be the final authority on your admission decision, I would listen to her as she knows the kind of class she wants to build.
That said, were you able to convince her with your reasoning? In that case, it may make sense to apply, not otherwise.

Hi Aim4gmat2024 It is a harsh reality, but yes, if the admissions director has told you she thinks your age could be a concern, then you need to take her seriously. Older applicants are seen as high-risk candidates who will face challenges in various areas, such as adjusting to the fast-paced curriculum and finding suitable and age-appropriate internship/job opportunities. So, most international B-schools will, by default, remind you that you can look at the executive MBA option while not entirely risking your current professional engagement. You did not mention your age, but 34 years is generally the maximum most B-schools will allow for their flagship programs.

Best wishes

Hello Aim4gmat2024,

Hope this finds you well.

Rationally, it makes sense for you to consider what the Admissions Director is saying; you can always explore other Full-time MBA programs in Europe if that is what you need.

All the best!
