Can someone help me understand this better?

How I treated this question:
SL = 40 (but loss 20%)
Neutral Price, NP = 40+20% = 48
now to make 20% profit 48+20% = 57.6
Revised RSP = 24
Total pcs to sell = 57.6/24 = 2.4

I know this is not even an option but I want to understand where I go wrong.

You are considering 20% on 40 tk.
You do not make a loss on Selling Price but on Cost Price.
So, you cannot just calculate 20% of the Selling price 40 tk.
You calculate 80% on Cost price, or derive the Cost price from the Selling price.
Here, we have given Selling price tk. 40
We will derive the cost price from this selling price:
40*\(\frac{100}{80}\) = 50 Taka.
Hoping this will help you.

Shuvo sells 45 lemons for tk. 40. and loses 20 %. How many should he sell for tk. 24. to gain 20 % in the transaction?
A. 16
B. 18
C. 20
D. 22
E. None of these

Posted from my mobile device

CP of 45 lemons is \(40*\frac{100}{80} = 50\)

So, CP/Lemon is \(\frac{50}{45} = \frac{10}{9}\)

Now, 20% profit on the Cost is \(\frac{12}{10}*\frac{10}{9} = \frac{4}{3}\)

Now, No of lemons he should sell for tk. \(24\) is \(24*\frac{3}{4} = 18\), Answer will be (B)
