Skipping Questions

Hi,

I read somewhere that in the quant section we can skip to about 15 questions and yet get a decent score due to the way the algorithm works. Is this true?

That depends upon the definition of decent score ?.
Just go through ESR report in gmat club or just google it.
You will get lot of ESR and a analyse that how much correct answer required to get perticular Quant score.
It also depend on which level of questions to determine final score.

I don’t believe that is a valid approach. Also, if you are in a place where you have to skip 15 questions in any given GMAT, then you likely need to spend some time improving your GMAT quant and verbal skills. You know what I mean? In any case, what is your score goal? Are you currently studying for the GMAT?

no. it will be a miracle if you get a decent score by skipping 15 questions. That is like skipping half of the test.

Well, you actually can not skip a question in GMAT per se. But if you meant guessing and moving on, then you probably won't score more than 50 percentile.

Good point and good clarification!

Bunuel tried guessing (actually making sure he answeres incorrectly) the first 10 and then answering all else correctly here: https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-prep-so ... 46146.html and this was the outcome:

Experiment: We will try to disprove the myth the way OG/GMAC positions it: the first 10 questions are not critical
Methodology: we will attempt the worst case scenario and will answer the first 10 questions incorrectly (not guess but incorrectly); then we will attempt to answer the remaining 27 questions correctly (not guess)

Result: Q38 (48th percentile - ouch) with only 10 wrong answers

Well, you actually can not skip a question in GMAT per se. But if you meant guessing and moving on, then you probably won't score more than 50 percentile.

Hi rajak01,

Based on your question, it sounds as though you have not taken any practice CATs/mocks yet. Is that true? If you have not, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can take 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can discuss the results and come up with a study plan.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

3) What is your overall goal score?
