Some Republicans concede that climate change caused by human activity is real, but nonetheless fear — as some Democrats — the president’s policies destroy jobs for miners and hurt the broader economy.

Some Republicans concede as some Democrats concede : action is required to comparison. Eliminates A, B & C

Between D & E, E is having parallelism issue.

Some Republicans concede that climate change caused by human activity is real, but nonetheless fear — as some Democrats — the president’s policies destroy jobs for miners and hurt the broader economy.

(A) as some Democrats — the president’s policies will destroy jobs for miners and hurting the broader economy

(B) as some Democrats — the president’s policies destroying jobs for miners and hurting the broader economy as well

(C) as some Democrats — that the president’s policies will destroy jobs for miners, hurting the broader economy

(D) as do some Democrats — that the president’s policies will destroy jobs for miners and hurt the broader economy

(E) as do some Democrats — that the president’s policies will destroy jobs for miners, and hurting the broader economy as well

VERITAS PREP OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

The most obvious decision point (and the easies to assess) is the choice between “as some Democrats” and “as do some Democrats.” Without the word “do,” the sentence suggests illogically that the Republicans fear the policies as “some Democrats” – meaning they are doing it as democrats?!?! The “do” is necessary to show that both groups fear the policies. (E) is incorrect as it lacks parallelism – you cannot say “will destroy jobs and hurting….”. The correct answer is (D)— the only one with the necessary “do” and parallel structure after.
